The Big 3 issues with this football team

as I see them...
#1-obviously kick off and punt coverage. somehow this has morphed into "rocket science"
#2- pass coverage. yea, we are supposed to have great db's but they look lost in zone coverage way too often for this stage of the season.
#3- coaching with the lead. i'm a big Miles guy but I could have choked him last night. we come out of the locker room with a TWO TOUCHDOWN LEAD and go 3 straight 3 and outs. If we would have scored a TD on our first possession it would have been 35 to 14 about midway thru the third. florida didn't seem to make any great adjustments, we just quit running the crossing routes and quit passing the ball completely.
imo, these are 3 flaws that will prevent us from winning the SEC unless fixed. I doubt #3 will ever get fixed. miles is who he is; "gimme a lead and i'm gonna run the clock out no matter how much time is on that clock".

Yup
1. Special teams
2. Secondary
3. Thinking the game is over when we have a multiple TD lead. It's like our team says, "well shite, our work is done here". They've done it almost every game, and it's absolutely aggravating. This WILL lose us a game if they keep it up.

A bit of devils advocate here. Yes it is going to cost us a game. But how many has it won us? How many times would being UNconservative cost us the game. I keep hearing it is going to cost us and the method keeps producing W's!

Besides that really long good concentration (lucky) catch and the long post, the only passes that worked were the same plays: a roll out to sideline and a very well designed te wheel route. Definetly need Mills back

Yeah, if we do it against a Top 10 team with a great defense we will no doubt lose...wait....

1 and 2 can be fixed. 3 won't be. The frustrating part about the second half was that LSU abandoned a passing game that was WORKING with good success in the first half.
Miles coaches "not to lose" when he has the lead. Obviously LF is your horse, but there was no reason to completely abandon the passing game. Like so many UF games before, this was a night where LSU clearly was the better team, yet UF still had a chance to win late.

Pretty much sums it up. There is a lot to fix before the Bama game.

As to #3, half time leads mean nothing at this level. All it proves is the other team showed up.

Was like watching two totally different offensive teams compared to first and second halves. Just don't know why miles insists on mailing it in early when things were finally clicking so well with the offense.

I said last night, I think every loves raymond, but something seems off with the dbs this yr. I don't know if it's grouping or what

Yep. Florida is a real football team with coaches that can make adjustments at half. Some people kid themselves that we should be hanging 60 on the 8th ranked team.

That first drive in the second half was stalled right away by a holding penalty. I would like to see it again because it seemed like the ref threw the flag right when the ball was snapped?

Florida did not adjust that much. It was lsu's offense that adjusted and went back into run run pass punt mode. Reason Florida was able to stop it so easily was because it was obvious what was going to happen.

well we made adjustments, too
it's just those adjustments were to take the air out of the ball and play "hold on" football

Keehn is probably the biggest punter in college, I don't understand why he doesn't have the leg strength

Special teams is the main issue i have with this team.
we need to find a replacement for jefferson imo. that battle kid looks like a player, i think he should see more of the field
yes they are not the most dominant defense LSU has ever fielded but i enjoy watching this defense play much more then the last few years that lsu statistically ranked very high.
its not how many yards you give up, its when you give them up and getting big stops at the end of games when all the cards are out on the table.
LSU has a damn strong squad this year and im loving every minute of it!

Yep. Having to gain 20 yards with possession football is not something we should be doing.
Keep the defense off the field is the name of our game. For good reason, not sure if it is youth, but, at times, the defense has struggled when they spend lots of time on the field.

agreed
i feel like they struggle the most when we have a lead and the opponent goes pass heavy. it should get better with pressure like they started putting on florida last night.
im impressed with the stoutness of our interior DLine at the point of attack. very strong kids in the middle, good to see.
Neil does a great job at setting the edge and containing it.. beautiful thing!
