That’s why you play Milazzo behind the plate

His leadership and consistency as a defensive catcher is irreplaceable. You can tell Herring feels very confident throwing his breaking balls because he knows Milazzo will block every single one of them and throw the runners out on 1st.

Oh plus, he got on base when needed. What else can you ask for?

Agreed - he gets on base, he’s a good defender, and is a senior leader.

1-2 with 2 BB and 2 runs scored. Great day for him.

Unfortunate he cost LSU the Florida series. The outlook would be a lot different right now.

if we throw out the 3rd inning and the two runs they scored after his passed ball, he was really good today

Throw out the game against Florida and we win that series too. Not how it works

I don’t think it’s silly at all.

Throw out the 9th inning in game 2 of the Florida and Vandy series and this team is 7-11 and the sky is not falling. It is what it is though

I thought Ack did fine today for what he was asked to do. It’s possible that Herring himself believes he is more effective out of the pen

It was nice to see his enthusiasm and fire too. Not one to assume the team is lacking energy but travinski looks like he’s walking to the fridge to grab a beer half the time

Don't agree with this. That game was not lost on one play.

Yeah just like if you throw out the little league plays that Braswell has missed all year, or the million pass balls that Neal has had, all while not being able to hit either. But you won’t mention those. fricking idiot.

Agreed. By their logic, everyone who didn’t hit a HR “cost” us the game. Simply not how the game works.

I’m sick of this bull shite narrative. The ball that bounced away couldn’t have been played any better than he did. It was a 58’ wild pitch that he was over with his body and happened to bounce away. Freaking Pudge wouldn’t have done better with that pitch and you people are just fricking stupid that keep saying this. Go rewatch the play and listen to what EVERYONE THAT KNOWS BASEBALL SAID INCLUDING BEN. Look at his body position and how he was OVER the ball.

fricking moron

I agree with this. He gets way too much hate for this. He blocked it up fine--it was spiked 58 feet and hit in front of the plate. Anytime that happens, you're at the mercy of the baseball gods as to where the ball winds up, and unfortunately, it bounced too far away and he couldn't find it in time. Was a good pitch to get the guy to swing at it when he had no chance to hit it, was a good play by Milazzo to block it up, just a bad bounce.

However, no excuse for his bullshite effort on the passed ball today. That was an easy play that he gave half-arse effort on and wound up costing 2 runs. And his offense is not good enough to make up for those plays. He's a much better hitter than he was 2 years ago, but he's still a singles only guy if he barrels it up. He's had some good ABs where he works walks, though. 2 times today, I think he walked with 2 outs to turn the lineup over. Once lead to Kling tying it up.

Milazzo has value. But he has to be almost perfect behind the plate to make up for his lack of offense. Not just his production, but his potential. Neal at least has the potential to park one in the seats. Millazo can barrel one up with all his might, and it's a single into centerfield. I don't know how much value he has as just a receiver--how much pitchers may prefer to throw to him. It may be immense and more than we'll ever know. But he's not perfect enough on what we see to absolve him of his mistakes.

Didn't someone who is a very credible source say that whenever we play Milazzo, we win?

Nah. The ball was in the dirt and had a weird bounce. Ack put the ball in the dirt at a crucial time, so I can't see how the blame rests on Milazzo. He he should have kept it in front of him, but it is at least shared responsibility.
