True, I didn't catch that. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Typically when you talk betting on the Rant it turns into a discussion of what does + and - even mean.

the spread movement somewhat shows a different perspective on the game than our own

we are biased of course, so its hard to look at like the outside bettors do.....if they are seeing things that make LSU look better than they did before, its definitely something that makes you feel positive

its interesting but the spread moves based on where people are putting money. LSU is getting some love at +8 but that doesn't mean people think they are going to win.

i get that

but people moving the spread means they like lsu's chances of keeping it close

thats good news in my book

the site i use shows LSU getting the higher percentage of bets on the spread (which i expected), but they're also getting about 65% of the moneyline bets too.....which for those that don't know means LSU to win

That would make sense at this point though. Bettors who have already made up their mind to take the Auburn ML have no incentive to do so at this point. As long as the line drops they will get a better price by waiting. The opposite is true for those who have decided on the LSU ML.

It's pretty standard for games in the 7 to 10 range to get more ML tickets on the dog anyway. Getting +250 to +350 is much more appealing to the casual bettor than laying -300 to -450.

Is it just me, or is it a bit asinine to be more optimistic about the outcome of the game based on what the spread in Vegas is doing? It is like you are grasping at straws.

Yea man. What does Vegas know about anything?

Started at 7.5 then got bet up. Sharps haven't bet this yet, they will Fri evening.

People that suggest they know when sharps bet and then state that they will be on Friday evening are guessing. Sharps abuse early lines and hope they may be able to get in late plays (Saturday morning for college) on lines that move. Absent an injury, Sharps are usually all over games by Tuesday mornning (at the latest for college and NFL). Public follows suit and sharps may put some late action to get a middle sometimes.

Agreed. Vegas knows Aubie is 8+ better than LSU at the Plains.

They want the juice. They would be ok if the bets went 50-50 every time

But it's extremely rare that that happens with one number, and if they move it they won't ever get true 50/50 money due to the possibility of getting middled.

Vegas books take sides and positions.

Said they would be ok with it, not that it happens often.
I had no clue how all this works until a bookie explained to me how he makes money.
He lives in a mansion so apparently he's doing something right...
