Work on LSU’s Parade Ground, a popular spot for tailgaters during football season, should be completed by late August.
Over the summer, mounds of sand have dotted the normally-grassy field as crews have prepped the lot at the heart of campus for re-surfacing.
According to LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard, soil and fiber re-enforced sand that was removed during a resurfacing project for two of LSU’s practice football fields has been transported to the Parade Ground and will be used to make the area more durable.
Ballard said LSU athletics donated the sand, soil and turf for the project, and labor is being covered by LSU Facility Services.

I believe the correct caption should be "athletics repairing damage to parade grounds caused by football tailgating "
But that doesn't properly blow Joe now does it

Tax dollars that are going to be the same are near the same regardless. Saves money by using Facility Service employees rather than hiring someone else to do it.

Or you can't comprehend
I'm glad this is being done. But claiming it's something out of the kindness of the athletic departments heart is silly.
They are doing this because tailgating takes its toll on the parade grounds. And that's ok. Every now and again help build it back up, like they are doing.
But facility services is under staffed and it's budget is far below what it needs to maintain the campus. So taking them away from the other jobs they have to repair and improve the parade grounds, without funding that additional work, should not be applauded

I guess we shouldn't applaud the $7 million dollars that the athletic department gives the university each year either.

Schools all across the country are relying on other outlets to subsidize athletic departments. Louisiana State University is one of the seven schools that does not receive subsidies from other sources.
According to USA Today Sports, out of the 228 NCAA Division I schools, there are only seven schools who do not receive subsidies from anywhere else to remain afloat.
In addition to, LSU Athletics is one of the 23 athletic departments that is self-sustaining which relies solely on self-generated funds. However, LSU’s Athletic Department does not receive any additional funds or tax dollars from the state nor from the academic side of the school.
Furthermore, the LSU Athletic Department does not receive money from student funds like most schools. Instead, the athletic department provides over $7 million annually to the university academically to assist with educational needs.
Business Impact of LSU Football

State funding comprises only 13.6% of LSU's operating budget.
Can't you find something better than this to whine about?

Well just wait til those players who under estimate the free scholarship , start making ridiculous demands when they're not happy receiving what the university can afford to pay them ... They will start sucking the university dry, and the campus will look like the Louisiana highway mediums ....
