tailgate at Rice (trees, campus instead of a parking lot, etc)
The tailgating at Rice is in the blacktop parking lots, not around the buildings. The only trees you will find will be right on the running track.

If there was ever a game that had the opportunity to stay within walking distance to the stadium and practically begged for it...this is it.
This game sets up perfectly to spend your morning to mid day hanging out by your hotel pool and having your own "tailgate", then moving it over to the parking lost for a few hours before kickoff then walk back and jump in the pool or shower before kickoff.
The "hassle" of making into the Rice area on Friday night will be MUCH easier then trying to deal with the Reliant logistics on game day.

For those going the pub route, I highly recommend the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (705 Main St.) which is actually Downtown, not Midtown
Hush, man, you’re gonna ruin my plan!

Reliant Stadium 4 Hour Policy
This policy shouldn't sit well with die hard Tiger fans. IMO, this policy dampens the game day experience of COLLEGE football.
With that being said, I contacted Reliant using the number provided by JPinLondon. The parking manager listened and understood my concerns. He didn't offer any solutions but my conversation led me to believe I wasn't the first call he received about the parking lot policy.
I really think we can change their minds, but it will take more of us to call them and let our opinion be known. I will be calling them back next week, myself. Who else can call also?

We will Party downtown in the AC at the tons of bars that will have gameday festivities until 6ish. Then hop the train to the stadium and join the sweaty sheep who think there's only one way to do things. Baaaaaaassaaaa!

I called this weekend after seeing this thread and got basically the same response as the rest of you. The person I spoke with said that they had received numerous calls about parking, but at this time they could not make any changes to the current policy. They said they do review each event and modify the plans as necessary, but at this time there are no changes planned. The tone led me to believe that if they get enough interest, they will make a change, so we need to keep bombarding them with calls.
