We scored 8 runs in 3 games in this Super Regional.. 4 of those runs were solo home runs.

In the 3 game series we totaled 15 hits in 30 innings. In those 30 innings we only lead Stony Brook 1 inning.

Our best hitters went cold in the series

Austin Nola went 0 for 10
JaCoby Jones went 3 for 12
Mason Katz went 3 for 12
Raph Rhymes went 1 for 13
Ty Ross went 0 for for 10
Tyler Moore went 2 for 10
Tyler Hanover went 1 for 9

Of those 7 guys we went 10 for 76 or .131 batting average. Those 7 were 10 of our 15 hits.

Not only that but 2 of their pitchers went complete games against us.

I think a new hitting coach is needed. A team doesn't make it to a Super and throw that terrible of a performance.

Hats off to Stony Brook.. they are a good team..

Also I think a lot of the winning was us winning on talent alone, a lot of the coaching was mind blowing in some places all season.

Usually looking at 4 pitches before you swing literally every at bat will result in horrible hitting.

I was very impressed with SB's hitters and plate approach but was far from impressed by their pitching. They didn't bring dominant stuff on the mound and we just bailed their guys out constantly and had a lot of bad misfortune as well hitting into big fouls or hard outs all weekend.

Their 1 through 9 could flat out hit as well as some of the guys on their bench.

The only one I don't think hit well was their catcher. And after all the throw outs he had this past weekend I'm sure they are okay with that.

Their 1 and 3 guy, (I can remember their names but not how to spell them.) lit our pitching up for the most part this weekend.

I'll also defend Nola and Gausman.. They both pitched very well. Gausman was shutting them down till the rain started.. But with a little run support for these 2 and the series probably would have turned out different.

I don't think he once looked bad at the plate though. He got robbed a few times and he hit it hard right at people.

Yeah Nola had some bad baseball fortune, as did the entire lineup last night. Hard lineouts right at people all night.

But at a certain point, you run out of casino chips to throw into the pile.

Mr. Sanchez has run out I'm afraid.

Are you referring to the point in the game on Friday where we attempted to steal 2nd late in the game down 2 runs?

No I said all season long..

That one though didn't make me as mad..

Scenario A
Katz on 1st, Rhymes batting with 2 outs... If Katz makes it then we have a runner in scoring position with what should be our best hitter hitting.

Scenario B
Katz gets caught out. Then you have your best singles hitter up to start the inning with no outs.

If he hadn't stolen then the scenario could have gone.. Katz at 1st, Rhymes singles.. Katz to 2nd, Rhymes to 1st.. And Ross flies out possibly.

I liked that decision.

Yea I know. That's the sad thing about it. At least that 1 pitch was the difference in the game.

He was out of chips after last season but Mainieri kept him around. Don't look for him to go anywhere this time either.

Yea being buddy buddy with a guy you've coached with forever only gets you so far. Eventually if the hitting doesn't improve and PM doesn't get a new hitting coach then PM may be the one losing his job.

I saw some ridiculously good/lucky baseball fortune for Raph Rymes all year. Many balls not hit well seemed to find a hole for Rymes all year. I thought he had the benefit of very generous scoring at times this year on hits I thought were errors. Rymes is a very good college hitter but dropping from .500 to .430 in a very short period of time shows his baseball fortune ran out.

He did have a lot of fortune on softly hit ground balls that found a hole. I noticed that too.

I didn't see that as an issue at all this weekend. What I saw was us letting their pitcher get by with 7 or 8 pitches per inning because we were first pitch swinging or letting him off the hook by swinging at horrible pitches. At one point the pitcher had thrown 6 straight balls and was clearly getting anxious, the crowd was roaring and shaking him up, then the next batter comes up and hacks at the first pitch and grounds out weakly and they are out of the inning. Perhaps letting him throw a few pitches could have resulted in a wild pitch, HBP, whatever to get a rally going. So many times this weekend we had 3 balls and then swung at a pitch a foot over our head or on the ground. It's like they think taking a walk is robbing them of trying to swing for the fence. I saw no strategy at the plate or any situational adjustment in batting....Just I am going up and swing for the fence.

First, I hate Cinderella and hope Stony Brook gets mauled in the CWS.

It just wasn't LSUs weekend. The statistics overall are comparable to other high profile programs. It will never be like it was; where LSU just nuts up when it has to. South Carolina is now like LSU was in the 90s.
