I'm not sure about the officials, but I know that the majority of the people who work in the SEC HQ are Gumps or Gump wanna be's. I have a buddy who lives in Birmingham and he sent me a pic of the building parking lot the week before the 2012 BCSCG. It seemed like every freaking vehicle had Bama flags on it. It looked like a Bama tailgate party. Officials who are alumni of a particular school or who have children who attend that school, should not be allowed to officiate games in which the school is playing. That can't happen in the SEC because it seems like every damn referee has ties to Bama or Auburn.

Their office is next to several hotels, a big entertainment complex, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and the BJCC. There is no specific parking lot for the SEC office.

This I agree with

Had a discussion with an official about this and you are incorrect.

If you played at certain school you can not call that game.

If you LIVE in that state you can not call a game involving a state team.

If you have any ties whatsoever, previous family member, current, related to booster, related to faculty, child currently or previously you can not.

This has been an SEC rule since the 60's

Tom Ritter is a Mizzou grad. If he is calling games he has no affiliation to Bama WHATSOEVER. If he has a child at Bama he is not calling a Bama game and claiming he does is a false, made statement, said made up by whomever anyway. Now whatever infatuation he might have with Bama, you'd have to ask him but it has nothing to do with any family member attending, playing, giving money to or planning on planning on attending Alabama.

Hubert Owens is a SWAC guy if I'm not mistaken but not entirely sure.

Steve Shaw has called Bama spring games but never called a Bama regular season game and his rep is widely regarded as amoung the best in all of college football.

I would guess zero. No official is allowed to referee a game involving his/her alma mater

Steve Shaw was prohibited from officiating Bama games, but he did officiate Auburn games when he was active.

All I know is that Tom Ritter was taken off the field mainly due to hostility against LSU and favoritism of the two Alabama teams.

He was designated the "booth replay" official for all SEC games.

When we endure countless WTF replay reviews over the course of the season, he's the reason why.

I don't understand for the life of me why Shaw and the SEC can't get him a new job at a new conference where his biases would not impact his ability to officiate football games.

Be that as it may, he was removed from the field because of his reputation for blowing obvious calls that always favored certain schools and harmed certain others.

A wise man once said "Alabama is neither as bad as we want them to be, nor as good as SEC officials make them to be."

I personally think the ties to the gumps with referee's is way overblown. That being said any referee that has gone to an SEC school or has any relationship to an SEC school shouldn't be allowed to referee any SEC team in that said schools's division. For example Shaw should only be allowed to referee Eastern division games "I don't care what is reputation is" and since Tennessee is Bama's cross division rival he shouldn't be allowed to referee any of those games either. Too much at stake for their to be any exception.

Haven't you LSU fans bitching about Ritter been embarrassed enough on here about the myth of his perceived bias? How many times to people have to post the stats (STATS!) of his officiating before the whining stops?
