I am very impressed by the D this season. Was expecting far worse.

We are tackling so much better, getting more pressure, and getting more turnovers.

At least Steele is nearly shutting out teams in the first half allowing us to build a lead.. I actually prefer this than playing from behind all game!

We are also much better in the run game.. nothing is worse than being run all over. Again, our guys are tackling better and typically in better position containing running QBs than with Chavis.

The biggest problem, besides lack of depth on the d line, is that the special teams has done the defense no favors all season long. In the 2nd half.. when other teams have tremendous field position we are very suspect in pass coverage.. however, in the 2nd half when we get good field position our D is far superior and gets after it.. forcing more punts/turnovers.

People upset with the D need to realize we do have a lack of depth on the D line, but we are still getting better penetration out of them in the first half than before.

If we continue to hold opponents under 24 I will take that all day long.. and 24 points is not even all on the D.. give special teams is giving up scores and bad field position.. Also last week, we gifted them a walk in TD off a fluke turnover on the 2 yard line.

I actually really like the way this D has been coached and positioned in the first half. I have no issue as long as we continue to shut out opponents in the first half and build leads.

So opposing teams go from being completely shut down in the first half, make adjustments at half and score some points in the second half...? Because that's what happening... And is it just me, or do we not sub out any defensive players at all in the first half?

Question... Where do all of you see that our tackling is better? DL and LB maybe, but Adams and Jefferson are constantly going for the big hit instead of wrapping up.

The thing people are annoyed with is y'all keep talking about half time adjustments. The defense has played well and allowed very few points in the first half. There simply hasn't been a reason for changes to be made. The OC's go in and make changes and then our defense has to react to that IN GAME. It's not like they get 15 minutes with their defense to explain what needs to happen next. Hell, Steele isn't even on the side line. Not saying things are perfect in the second half and of course i'd like for us to do better but, given the way these games have been playing out, I see why it takes a bit of time to react.

We seem to be giving up the big play. Especially on 3rd down. We need to get after the qb more. Fix that and we will be good. D has come up big late when they needed to in several games. Think they will be ok

It did seem like with Chavis, we could usually make the right adjustments at halftime and with Steele, he just doesn't seem to be making the adjustments needed

Just what adjustments do you want made?

If you can't see something is wrong with the defense and compare the quality of offenses we've played you're blind as hell. We've played 1 good QB all year in Dak and he missed an easy 2 point conversion.

Your basing your argument on one play? LSU held MSU to 6 points thru first 3 quarters on the road in the first game of the season. Let's not even talk about LSU's offensive didn't help much with one scoring drive after the first quarter.

I'm still optimistic we get by Fla but there's is a tad bit of concern especially if we aren't to dominate TOP. Seems other teams continue to find open receivers on 3rdand even 4th and long with only a 4 man rush.
Prescott and the kid from Syracuse really got going on us. How can Spurrier continue to get their best and all SEC WR matched up on 13 29 and even 52 once?

Chavis's defenses drove me crazy. Like the final drives of the last 2 Alabama games at home plus the adjustments or lack there of at the Music City bowl against ND. The jury is still out on Steele but depth seems to be what we lack on the D line. We hopefully will welcome back Mills next week. Safeties are a little concerning right now.

Right... We're not giving up any points in the first half, so why should we be making adjustments at halftime??

One of the problems I've noticed is Dwayne Thomas teams for the past two weeks has been targeting him he's been the biggest weakness in my opinion

Hate to be the one to break the news to you, but Chavis had checked out long before our bowl game against ND.

The defense's biggest issue is not coaching or scheme, it's depth (particularly on the line). That means the second half will always be an issue, because players wear out.

What year was it, 2013, where we had a lot of recruits but nobody has panned out? Godchaux wasn't that highly recruited, but nobody from the prior class had done anything, so he stepped right in. We're lucky he did.

Look at the makeup of the current team, and you see it- a lot of freshmen and sophomores, both on offense and defense. most of the juniors are making no impact; offhand I can only think of 3 or 4 guys from that class:

Dural, WR, good player.
Beckwith, very good linebacker, took 2 years to get on the field.
Jennings, QB, nothing special, but at least he's seen the field and made some plays when we needed him
Diarse, WR, redshirted a year, hasn't made more than a handful of plays, did make one to help us beat Wisconsin.

Honestly, outside of those 4, I don't know anyone else from that class. Others may help me out with this list... but that's the major reason we don't finish games stronger, we're missing a class.

It's all about creating pressure, not necessarily sacks. We are not getting enough penetration from the line. When that happens I can assure teams will not have nearly as much success.

We aren't getting any consistent pressure

If you "don't know anyone else from that class" (2013), you're not paying much attention! How about Bower, LaCouture, Pocic, Neal and White, who are starters, and some others providing depth, like Gilmore, Herron, Jefferson (started every game in Mills' absence), Malone, Riley, Dodd and Smith?

I'd say that's not too bad for a "missed" class.

LSU ranked #14 in Total Defense, not bad.

A&M ranked #57 in Total Defense.
