do I agree they will or do I agree they should?

I hope we see more spread but Miles clings to that old school big10 run out of the I too much to let it go almost exclusively spread.

With RS, Rueben Randle, Toliver, I'd love to see them spread it around and let those guys make some plays

I agree. I can't stand 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

I love it, but we need to go to the spread.

If Michigan, Auburn 2 years ago, Tennessee 2 years ago, and our own offense last season weren't evidence enough that you can't just instantly switch to a spread, I don't know what to tell you. A true spread, like running the option, requires specific personnel on the line and at QB. If you don't have it right, you end up with some in between mish-mash that doesn't work. Again, see LSU's offense last season. With a bigger O-Line, which it looks like we will have this year, the I Formation game works just fine, and it can be just as open as the spread if the run game is clicking. Has everyone forgotten 2007? Did anyone watch Alabama the last two years? How much play action did we run out of the I that year with Hester in the backfield? When the defense has to respect the run, you don't have to have 5 receivers. 3 or 2 and a TE work great. It's even better when you have RBs with good hands that can run routes off play action, which we have this year.

The formation doesn't dictate how high powered your offense is. Your personnel and scheme implementation do. No matter what our receivers and RBs are suited for, our personnel up front are a better fit in the I, and our coaches seem to be a lot more comfortable running the offense out of it. If the line is better and a FB steps up, the I will be plenty open with our skill talent this year.

Crowton claims he's been implementing the spread since he got here. All he's really done is saturate our playbook with a myriad of formations and predictable personnel groupings without truly finding an offensive identity and turning our offense into a disjointed, executionless mess.
