LSU AT MISSISSIPPI STATE, 7 P.M. ET

SportsLine Projection Model’s score: LSU 26, Mississippi State 22

Vegas line: LSU is listed at -7.5 on the road (O/U 53.5)

Projected Statistics: Derrius Guice runs 14.1 times for 102 yards, while Danny Etling throws for 214 yards for LSU. Nick Fitzgerald has 241 combined pass/run yards, and Aeris Williams runs for 73 yards for the Bulldogs.
_________________________________________________________

I don't think Etling throws for 200+ but maybe
If Guice breaks 100 it will be on more than 14 carries (I look for DW to rack up some tough yards)
Fitzgerald ain't gonna have a ton of rushing yards so he will be under the 241 total as well (assuming our DB's play at level they must)

Todd Grantham's history as a DC is that he likes to stop the run, so you better believe Etling is going to have to pass. Moo States front 7 is not getting a lot of talk but they have done a fantastic job so far albeit inferior competition but that is the same kind of competition we played the first two weeks also.

No Etling needs to pass for over 150yards if we want to get out of there with a W because they are going to load the box and make Etling beat them with his arm. Until LSU proves how good our passing attack is, everyone should still load the box.

Etling will probably have to throw for 200+ if we want to win.

Damn, that's crazy. IMO, that .1 extra carry is going to be way too much for Guice. I think people underestimate just how much a .1 of a carry can fatigue you.

Very true. I believe their front 7 is underrated. They have a few players on their de that LSU went after, and a couple that we went after hard.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but Grantham has been able to defeat Canada's offense a couple of times. I know the skill levels are different at both of their respective schools now than where they previously went head to head at. However, if anything, it shows Grantham does have familiarity with Canada's offense and has had success against it. IMO, that's my biggest concern for the game.

I don't know what the hell our offense is going to do because that's still the big enigma.

But I can't see MSU scoring 22 points on our defense...

Todd Grantham's defenses are very beatable with a power running game. There is way more evidence to support this than Grantham beating a Canada offense. Canada didn't have the skill players like LSU does.

LSU had 177 yards rushing against him 3 games ago.

Grantham has been a journeyman D.C. for the last 10+ years for a reason. He has never been really good enough to stay in one place long and his career trajectory has been downward. NFL -> UGA -> Louisville -> MSU

That's the thing though States DC may have had success at another school but he has no idea how Canada will attack that defense. I'm pretty sure Canada knows right off that they will stop the run at all cost so lots of mis direction, fakes, short but quick patterns to wide open players off of it should work.

If that doesn't work then use our WRs to create separation on short routes to start the game and then use the ground game and fakes to throw them off. LSU still hasn't used the short passing game this season from the RPOs plays we have. In the BYU game, which played a sound game, I saw areas which we could have exploited that defense, if we would have passed the ball on those RPO plays. I think that's how we will attack them knowing that they will attack the run game.

Once they know we can hit them in the short passing game it will take some pressure off of that ground game, then you can start beating them on the ground and use PA off of it. State will still have to play a sound game and I'm not sure if they can do that against a team like LSU. The OL will have to play a physical game and be up for that challenge. If they do that we should be ok.
