Spoke to Jacoby Stevens's Dad Today

He was making a delivery to my work and we just started talking about LSU football before he revealed that he was Jacoby's father. It was mainly small-talk, but here are a few things I found interesting:
1) The move to WR was truly left up to Jacoby and he is free to move back to defense at any time, but there's a very high chance he stays at WR for this whole year at least. His success at WR and how much he is needed at Safety will determine if it's a permanent move or not. Also, he knows his money will come at Safety in the NFL, so a permanent move to WR would surprise me.
2) He was a very good receiver in high school but his numbers don't necessarily show it because of the running style of his HS QB, so pay no heed to his receiving numbers.
3) Jacoby's dad was very adamant and quick to point out that the move to WR had nothing to do with Grant Delpit beating him out or anything because they play different positions and the depth at WR is much more worrisome than the depth at Safety.
4) Alabama and LSU recruited him very differently. LSU and Coach O took the more personal approach and made the Stevens family feel part of the Tiger Family, and it was more than just a Coach O/Corey Raymond type of recruitment. Heck, Austin Thomas was texting him while he and I were talking. Nick Saban on the other hand mainly took the approach of harping on LSU's lack of consistency within the coaching staff, they took advantage of Coach O's stint at Ole Miss and the rumors that Corey Raymond may not even remain at LSU. Ultimately, of course, the family aspect of LSU's recruiting outweighed the inconsistency of the coaching staff.
5) Jacoby and his father approached the recruitment process knowing that he'll be playing on Sundays, so they compared the NFL success of players from LSU and Alabama. Jamal Adams, Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, and other LSU DBs with success in the NFL made a great impression on Jacoby while really no Alabama DBs have had sustained success in the NFL, which was a big deal to them.
This may be common knowledge to some or others may not care, but I thought Jacoby's dad was very cool and I enjoyed the conversation and decided to share with tRant. Here's to hoping Jacoby has an awesome year for the Tigers!

Good stuff, OP. It's good to have Stevens with the good guys.

Saban shouldn't even have to resort to that.
Thanks for sharing btw.

Oh no. Nick Saban's players do not have as much success in the NFL as LSU players. But I thought he was the best defensive mind out there!

If they know his money will come at safety in the NFL, and players ahead of him on defense isn't a factor, and he realizes the logjam at wr is worse that at db, then why is he choosing to play wr?

Saban is POS and will say anything to negatively effect LSU

He was saying that the argument that Stevens is moving to WR because Delpit beat him out is illogical because Delpit plays SS and Stevens plays FS. Also, the Safeties are in great hands with Corey Raymond and they're also incredibly talented with Ed Paris, Delpit, and Todd Harris Jr. However, the WR position is very underexperienced and unproven. Outside of Chark, the returning receivers on this year's team combined for 10 catches. Basically, Jacoby can play both positions and WR is a bigger need, so he's helping the team out for at least this year.

Thanks a lot for sharing.. just shows how much of a team first kid Jacoby is. We knew the O hire would bring negative recruiting but I figured saban wouldn't need to do that. Not surprising though. Jacoby is a stud and will shine at WR as long as he's playing it.

Bama fans swear Nick and staff don't negative recruit yet when you talk to players parents they all mention that their main pitch is running down other schools.

I would take championships over our players doing better in the NFL than Alabamas.

I would take the longevity in the high paying NFL. At least we know you are to stupid to make big decisions so that's good for the world.

Pretty sure he was speaking as a fan and not Stevens dad. Could be wrong though.
Any father wants a payday for thier kid if that's possible.
