If you don't win your conference, you shouldn't go to the playoffs. Period.
How can you say that you are the best team in the country when you aren't even the best team in your conference?
100% agree.

This committee is even worse than the old-old system of the AP selecting the champ. At least there were so many sportswriters that all schools had a chance of their quality being recognized. This playoff system will accomplish nothing other than shifting the controversy from "who should be #2?" to "who should have been #4?"
frick I said this from jump street, nobody will care who 1-3 are, but the whole argument will be "Should X team jump Y team for the 4 spot?"

I see this, unfortunately, as an attempt to create parity in CFB...parity on the field and at the cash register. The SEC arms race has left even the big booster teams from other conferences behind. There are only a handful of teams in the rest of the country that could even compete in the SEC.
It will be a very, very rare season that a second SEC team makes the Playoff...this is by the design of the committee.
SEC West teams that don't win the division will have to be content with scoring a minor bowl victory...like #6 in SEC West Miss St just crushed Conf. USA champion Rice.

Spinoff: LSU will be screwed under the "playoff" system
I will say what I have said before the SEC will not be in the Championship game next season .All of the details are not worked out , but look for Ohio State , and the little mighty Ducks to be in that game . I hope the Auburn Tigers bring it home to the SEC where it belongs . The SEC will not drop the 6 games that we have to play each year , but should . Just to see if the little might Ducks would like to play 2 SEC teams a year and the Ohio Buckeyes would like to add 2 SEC teams each year to make their Football Schedule . It seems and I heard in one of the gamnes yesterday it will be based on a teams out of conference Schedule as to how strong the teams are .So the fact that the SEC is the strongest will niot be a factor .They will be looking for the scoreing factor and margin of victory points .But in Miss States game yesterday they were wantin State to pull their starters out at the end of the 3rd quarter which is what Miss states coach did , and they were still saying Miss State should not be even trying to make plays like they were as if to say stop trying to score . I can not find anything good in this for the SEC it is set for the west coast and the Big 10, and not the SEC . Playoffs LSU 2014 Schedule

This is wrong.
When Bama inevitably fails again to win the SECW, if they have one loss, they will get the media darling treatment just as 2011. Bama and maybe UF will be the ONLY SEC schools that will be allowed in the playoff without having to win the SEC.
It feels so damn good to be right.
Auburn in 2013 would have been LSU in 2011 had the playoff been this year.
Auburn would have had to beat Missouri and win the SECCG for the right to rematch the Mighty Tide and their Genius Coach who lost again in November.
Yep. This playoff is going to do wonders for CFB.
There will be lots of Tier 2 teams like LSU that will get screwed under this system.
Miles, I believe, knows this. He is putting together a staff and a recruiting class that should be good enough to beat Bama twice in a year. That is going to be his standard, and he knows it.

All about $ and who is getting bribed behind the scenes - just like government, Wall Street and the multi-nationals.
That being said, it should be fairly clear who the Top 2 - 3 are in any given year. Then let the best of the 4 teams win 2 games.

Only one SEC team should be in and it should be the Champion, assuming they have a comparable record to the other 3 invitees.
This. I have no problem with this scenario and think it should only be conference champions.
The team in the SEC this helps is the bias Alabama usually gets from subjective voters. They will scream to add Alabama very year as an at large every time Alabama fails to win the conference. They won't do that for any other team in the conference, but I don't believe in a non champion participant.

My biggest fear is that instead of picking the 4 best TEAMS irregardless of everything else, they will pick teams based on what the network wants:
* REGIONALISM - picking a team from diverse parts of the country to prop ratings (LSU, Bama, FSU, UT not going to happen)
* HEISMAN POWER - LSU a better team for the 4 seed, but say Clemson has the Heisman winner, or top candidate, a media JFF type - Tigers out most likely
* PC PER CONFERENCES - no way the playoff picks 2 SEC teams in consecutive years..."let's spread it around to keep interest up"
* FINALLY, WHAT ESPN REALLY WANTS EVERY YEAR - Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State/Michigan, USC
A four team playoff doesn't help LSU or the rest of the SEC (except for Bama). An 8 team playoff, maybe, but 16 would be ideal. Maybe the next go round.

You people who wanted a playoff are in for a rude awakening.
100% true. the never ending search for seeing the "best teams" play is not acheivable any more than it is for basketball.

Because LSU is not a media darling, and certainly not a favorite of any of the committee members, will have to be undefeated (not even one loss) to even sniff a championship under the playoff system.
nope. i completly disagree with this and your premis that we get screwed. the winner of the SEC is in. that simple. will another SEC team get in? i say EXTREMELY doubtful. this system will spread out the 4 teams by conference and it will be expanded to 6 or 8 teams very soon.
