Obviously offensively it’s no contest. Defensively the 2011 team was better.

Overall, which team is better?

I think the 2011 team had a slightly better roster, but this coaching staff is much better.

I get what your saying and I guess bringing home the National championship would make them “better” but I’m more talking about which team would win IF it was possible to match them up together to play each other.

I don’t need to wait until Jan 14. Yes, this team is by far better than 2011. Once we squeaked by Bama, the 2011 offense went to hell. We made it through the SEC Champ on the shoulders of Matthieu, then got embarrassed on 1-9-12. This team has a coach willing to adapt, an offense that has dominated every game and a defense that has improved throughout the season and not declined. Our worse defensive performances were when we had the most injuries.

Honey Badger was one of the best players to ever put on an LSU uniform but he’s not Joe Burrow. He willed us over a win against UGA in the SEC Champ game but was a non factor on 1-9-12. His position could only allow him to impact the game so much. Joe on the other hand can take over any game, at any time because he’s the QB. This team would beat the 2011 team simply because the offense is better than the 2011 defense by a small percent but our defense is far better than a Jefferson led 2011 offense.

Probably this team.

The offense has been lights out and doesn't give the ball away. Even with Mathieu on the 2011 team I don't think enough plays would be made to overcome the offensive efficiency. 2019 defense is good enough to keep the anemic 2011 LSU offense in check.

With that said, if you throw on burrow on the 2011 team(with the 2019 offensive game plan), we blow everyone out of the water easily.

2019 would beat 2011 like we just beat Georgia.

QB play trumps all. They wouldn't be able to stop our offense, and our current defense would have no problem stopping that 2011 offense.

Once we squeaked by Bama, Miles saw it as his cue to play it 100% safe, conservative, (and scared?) from there on out.

Not sure who would win the game, but man alive how fun would it be to watch Burrow's 2019 offense against Mathieu's 2011 defense?!

That would be a special match up littered with NFL talent

We have yet to play a game this season where we trailed or really felt like we could lose. Some ended close, but you always felt confident they would win.

2011 we trailed Arkansas, UGA and the Bama game (regular season) required a lot of breaks (missed FGs, Reid INT) to allow us to squeeze out a win.

CFB has changed a lot the last 10 years too so it's a hard comparison. I think 2019 Ohio St and Clemson likely beat 2011 Bama too so it's a tough call.

This team is one win away from having a claim to being better.

I still think that 2011 D was absurd on all 3 levels.

This is the best LSU football team ever.

Having the best LSU player ever at the most important position helps make that case

Why? This team has met or exceeded the 11 squad’s achievements.
This team has been more exciting and entertaining to watch.
I give the 19 squad the nod on style points.

We didn’t squeak by Bama. We whipped them. We exacted sweet revenge on a aTm. We beat a very good Florida team By two scores in an exciting game. The ‘11 Florida team was average. The Texas win was epic.

Not taking anything away from ‘11, the Oregon win was incredible etc. I just like the 19 team more.

Man, 2019 offense vs. 2011 defense would be fun to watch.

2011 secondary:
Mo Claiborne
Tyrann Mathieu
Eric Reid
Brandon Taylor

These guys against Burrow, Jefferson, Chase, and Marshall would be epic.

It doesn’t matter which team is better. Our biggest complaint about our coach in 2011 was that he couldn’t develop and coach up talent. Talent just stayed level at LSU then whereas now our coaches actually develop talent. Our coaching staff today with the 2011 team would’ve beaten Bama by three touchdowns then.

Both teams were/are tremendous. The coaches is where the biggest difference lies imo.
