Sometimes to have to lose in order to win - Les needs to get this

I've come to the realization that Les doesn't just "play it safe" in games.
He "plays it safe" for entire seasons. He knows when his teams don't have it....but he's gotta get to 10 wins so he can keep everyone just happy enough with him.
This is how it plays out practically: going into a meaningless game against ARK, Miles could have sacrificed known performance by playing Harris the entire game thereby giving him real in game experience for next season. If we lost, well we won more tomorrow.
We saw this in 2011. In blowouts Les never played Mett. He played seniors almost every snap. Had Mett played more in 2011 he would have hit his learning curve sooner in 2012 and 2013 could have been much more interesting.
We saw this with Welter - until is was painfully obvious Miles was wrong.
Basically, Miles plays to win 10 games a season. I think he's cool with that...
Never mind the fact 6 SEC teams tend to do that almost every year these days (or close to it).
On a yearly basis, the man is playing checkers instead of chess.

Question for you: Can you make a list of 10 coaches that have been able to sustain his record against top 25 teams over the past decade that have done better than this? It's harder to do than you imagine.
Also, if you're earning $4.3M a year, would you rather go 6-6 with the potential to go 6-6 the following season and get fired, or have a decade of 10-2/10-3 and still have a chance to compete?
You're literally asking him to go against the odds and take a $8.6M pay check rather than a $43M paycheck.....unless you're assuming that Harris will get us to undefeated next year.....

In today's game with his recruiting (which Les does well) yeah...
Top notch programs can cruise to close to 10 games a year. Have you not checked the stats on that?

Les will tell you it's the execution that's lacking. After reviewing the film, he'll say we were a missed assignment from having big plays.

Here is the top 10 with current records of the final 2004 BCS standings:
1) USC (7-3)
2) Oklahoma(7-3)
3) Auburn (7-3)
4) Texas (6-5)
5) California (5-5)
6) Utah (7-3)
7) Georgia (8-2)
8) Va Tech (5-5)
9) Boise State (8-2)
10) Louisville (7-3)
So of the top 10 teams from 2004, only Georgia and Boise State can possibly achieve 10 wins in the regular season. It's not that easy. And there's a HUGE difference between 10-2 and 9-3. 2 Losses you can potentially get into the playoffs......
of the teams listed that have won 7 games so far, only Oklahoma and Louisville have an easy schedule the last 2 games.
So yeah, maybe you should look at the stats?

SEC teams have won 9+ games SIXTY-TWO times in the last decade with an average of greater than 10 wins a season. That's almost half the SEC.
(Including expanded teams throughout for consistency)

2013: five teams with 10 wins after bowl games...with a couple of 9 win teams

Ok....but for that stat to have meaning for your argument you'd need to relate that to a given coach or a given team.

THANK YOU!!!! Nothing annoys me more than when people defend les using only the 10 win stat!!! I usually respond with a sarcastic "oh lemme go run out and get my 10 win season commeorative tshirt" or "man I cant wait till we raise our ten win season banner in Death Valley next fall." I've never seen what is so special about a 10 win season and now I have proof.....nothing.

He goes against the odds every game he starts/plays Jennings - the worst QB in the country.
Harris could be just as bad, but he could not be worse.
It makes sense, in this case at leasat, for the present AND the future.
At least he could keep up "chess" appearances.

So no one thinks mett had some maturity issues? Because this baord ripped him in 2012. or how about when Les played him and he didnt do what the coaches asked and ran a bootleg? come on dude.
