Honestly, for all the "it gives the defense more to prepare for" that I hear, I'm concerned that it gives our own LSU offense too much crap to work on in practice instead of the starting QB (#12) and future starting QB (#8) getting needed reps in practice time

it sounds like you want JJ off the team so JL and Mett are our #1 and #2 guys. i understand but do not agree. however, that doesn't matter one whoop because he is on the team, he is a senior with tons of experience and our coach and players think he will help us win ballgames. the fact that many of our fans do too just isn't relevant.

have you seriously considered what the situation would be if JL went down with an injury, perhaps a season ending one? with the teams we play, i'm glad our coaches consider that possibility.

We still don't have one this year. Its amazing how last year everyone bitched about total offense but now they don't. We have had 4-5 tds b/c of defense and special teams and numerous others set up by defense.

There is a HUGE difference in last year's offense and this year's. I won't debate the reasons why, but I will emphatically state that this year's top 20 scoring offense blows last year's crap out of the water.

We have won every game by double digits, 4 out of the 5 haven't even been reasonably close. The only game this year that closely resembled last year's offense was the Miss State game, and I think our defense was so awesome that night, Les decided to just sit on the ball on offense. Last year we weren't scoring the ball, and we let weaker teams have a chance to beat us in the 4th quarter, see West Virginia and Tennessee. This year's "total offense" is a result of getting to a big lead early, yes, the defense/special teams have helped, and then just playing keep away from the other team with our running game.

JJ is a ball hog. He gets in the game, he keeps the ball. Selfish.

Still not sure the need to continue to shoot this dead horse. People that are prone to Boo will do it regardless of what they may read here or on any other thread - some folks can simply not be happy with a no loss season start and #1 ranking. WAKE UP PEOPLE - time to move on and get ready for Florida and I trust CLM is dooing just that!

Exactly. That's the difference.

The offense is now capitalizing on the what the defense provides, something they didn't do well last year at times.

No, he served more than enough punishment for the fight. I think that JJ should be running the same offense that we have been running. You don't see Lee standing in the shotgun running zone reads do you? Why can't JJ just line-up under center and hand the ball off to the tailback with the occasionaly play action pass thrown in there? That is our 2011 offense, and it's very good. Running two different types of offense is awful, and we showed that last year.

What if Mettenberger is a good quarterback? Let him and JJ compete for the backup spot running the I formation.

I think it has more to do with our offensive identity and o-line than anything else. Yes the passing game is much improved but we are much more consistent with our running game. Playcalling has been better and offense has been simplified. I would like to take advantage of JL's passing more b/c defenses still put 8-9 in the box.

Jarrett Lee gets hurt on a qb sneak and you're crying then too. Let the coaches coach, let the players play, and support your team!

This!

I don't think Miles wanted to put JJ in as early as he did, but from a purely logical standpoint, it made sense. If you have a big, physical running QB as your backup, why would you risk injury to your starter in that situation...

I saw one first down by Jefferson on his drive, the second set of downs ended at 3rd and 7.

3rd and 8 at LSU 30 0 - Jordan Jefferson rush for 12 yards to the LSU 42 for a 1ST down.

1st and 10 at LSU 42 - Jordan Jefferson rush for 12 yards to the Kent 46 for a 1ST down.

2nd and 10 at UK 46 - Jordan Jefferson rush for 4 yards to the Kent 42.

Info available on the inter-webs. Please don't pull fast one to make your argument. JJ looked OK running the ball.

As OP you seemed to suggest some role. But the moment others concur or ask that you trust the coach you seem to have your panties in a bunch and revert to your 'I hate JJ' routine.

Ok, two first downs and a 3rd and 6. No points.

I'm 100% certain that Kentucky hadn't spent any time at all covering the option in their preparation for LSU. We'll see how good Jefferson looks on the option this week.

If JJ only plays on qb sneaks, I'm fine with it. When Les Miles randomly inserts JJ into the offense, it will hurt the continuity of the offense that has been very effective this year.
When did he do that? We have seen Jefferson in two situations this season: one snap at the 1 yard line to run a QB sneak, and garbage time after we padded a big lead. One is precisely the time you just said you are "fine with" and the other is the opposite of "randomly insert[ing]". When you have run up a big lead on a weaker opponent, that is when you are expected to sub in your backups to get them some low-pressure snaps and experience (for example, to ease a player back into to game speed that has been out for several weeks). Why would anyone boo either of those decisions on the basis of anything other than their petty, personal bullshite that they are putting directly ahead of the interests of the team?
