why do the girls only play 24 conference games?

As compared to baseball, softball plays the same number of overall games, but the season is a week shorter. Early in the season, we played 4 or 5 games each weekend because of that. That's probably why there are fewer SEC games, to allow teams to fit those non-conference games in. Also, it makes a simple 3-year rotation: Each year you play 4 SEC series at home, 4 on the road, and there are 4 teams you don't play.
