Same as Jaquish, but I hope to see some production this weekend.

What worries me most about Jaquish is the pounding she is taking behind the plate having to catch just about every game. We have seen no rotation like she was used to in the last couple of years with Kloss. The first thing to go when a catcher sees a lot of innings is the offensive production. In my opinion we have to find a way to get her some spells to let her lower half catch up. Cunningham and Satchell will never be Jaquish but if we keep running Jaquish out there every inning she will not produce like the Jaquish we are used to seeing either.

On top of the physical, it's also much more mentally challenging to catch than play a position. You simply cannot take a pitch off when you are catching someone like Hoover.

Jaquish is a strong lower half leverage hitter and all of these innings are adding up and I believe are a huge contributor to the offensive decline we are seeing from her.

Serrett has one of the best arms I've seen. Bet she would break people's limbs if she played dodgeball.

Her release though....to have the hand-eye coordination to get rid of it as fast as she does...and as accurately as she does...is freakish. God-given ability that only few of us are lucky enough to have.

Although I would like to see Dawson getting some more starts and ABs, it's nice to see Beth showing more and more confidence in her over the past few weeks. She's pinch hit and pinch run in a few critical situations recently and I think that is great for her confidence. It is great to see the staff trust her enough to put her in some big spots. I hope that continues and she gets more PT as the season wears on. I believe she can play a huge role in close games we'll have and into the postseason.

With the DP position struggling right now, maybe Dawson gets a shot there...but I honestly think they don't want another slapper in the lineup since Andrews appears to have won the LF position... and would rather have a big bat at DP. I know Dawson has the potential to be a Bailey Landry-type who can slap and hit for power, but at this moment she isn't there yet. But I do like using Dawson in the DP spot if the DP leads off an inning, like we saw yesterday. And I like that when Dawson does get on base, Torina usually wastes zero time in letting her steal 2nd. When you have an athlete with her speed, there is no use having her on first just to stand there and wait for something to happen. She is in the game to cause mayhem on her own.

My least favorite play in softball is when you have the super fast runner on 1st and none out....and the next batter bunts without giving the runner a chance to steal. Let the speedster do her thing and get to second, THEN worry about getting her to 3rd. Yesterday, Torina let Dawson steal second quickly, then it was up to Quinn to move her over, which she did by hitting the ball to the right side. Too bad they couldn't get her home.

Good points....I hope Torina gives her the night off from behind the plate tomorrow night vs. ULM. She did that against Nicholls last week starting Jaquish at 3rd and letting Satchell catch, but when Hoover had to come in in relief in the 5th, Jaquish went behind the plate. These kids are young and are in great shape, but I do agree that catching all the games can take a toll.

The main thing she needs is for someone right behind her in the lineup to get hot again so she can have some protection.

If you had told me that LSU would sweep Georgia and do so without getting any hits or RBI from Jaquish the whole weekend, I would have thought you to be mentally ill.

Having two, three or even four slappers in the lineup is not uncommon. I'm not sure many would classify Landry as a slapper as hard as she consistently hits the ball. There is NOTHING touch and go about Bailey Landry.

The key word in your above analysis is "rather". Of course in theory, in a perfect world or hypothetically you would love to have punch throughout the lineup. But if that punch is not present or productive you move to options that can get on base and pressure the defense in different ways. Andrews has shown lately how devastating this can be on a defense.

At the end of the day, the staff has to figure out how to get the best 9 hitters in the line up. The best 9 that are going to get on base the most and be the most productive when they are there.

I think Walljasper has the potential to be that pop in the DP spot....but what is really weird about her is that she seems to do better as a pinch hitter than she does when she gets 3-4 AB in a game. Seems like it should be the other way around, but she has been great as a pinch hitter, this year and last year.

I will say this....I would rather have too many options than not enough options any day. Not only does it stir the pot on here but it inspires competition within the team and it makes everyone better. There have been teams in the past that had way too few options. How Torina got her first team in 2012 to OKC is one of the great magic acts ever.

^^^This.

I believe this has been huge for Quinn to improve this season. She sees youngsters on the bench ready to take her spot and she has been the best she has ever been.

Left field was another sore spot last year and we are better there than we have been in a few years as well.

I personally like her off of the bench. Walljasper does not have exceptional bat speed and I think it works against her for pitchers to see her multiple times.

Typically she hits well against pitchers that she has never faced which makes her a terrific pinch hitter. She is not a difficult hitter to attack if you are a quality college pitcher which ties in to what you said above. On top of this, she is a complete and total liability once she gets on the base paths.

I want to see this horse in the circle more than anywhere else.

Satchell did catch the last game in Kansas too. She looked much more comfortable behind the plate than earlier in the season. She also hit a beautiful home run as well. I feel she'll get some more shots back there to give SJ some breaks. I'm in the same boat on my HS team as I need to give my catcher some breaks... same situation as SJ

I saw that game on TV...she did look better. Heaven help her, but I saw the Penn State game the first night of the season and she was a train-wreck behind the plate. Torina had to take her out a few innings in. I think she is in a much better place now. Torina admitted after that game to the media that she might have put a few kids in tough places in that game.

Seems to make sense. She makes a good pinch hitter also because she is just a cool customer and the pressure just doesn't seem to bother her. But she definitely can clog up the bases...

I agree, one of the biggest strengths for this team is depth with young hungry talent. Everyone pushes each other to be better, including the seniors. Jaquish mentioned before the season started how the freshmen came in and outplayed everyone.

I agree with yall on Jaquish behind the plate, Satchell should start tomorrow night and give Jaquish some relief. She looked a thousand times better behind the plate in her last outing. I know Torina is extremely excited about Satchell, she mentioned how much power she is capable of bringing at the plate.

Beth has also been inserting Dawson into some pinch hitting situations lately. I have a feeling Beth will give her some DH opportunities soon, she is just so deadly with her speed. Anytime Dawson and Andrews are on first. They really should be stealing almost everytime. These two if they can get on can definitely get us an extra run or two a game utilizing their speed.

She came out after taking responsibility. I think that was when we had Gorsuch in the circle with Satchell behind the plate in her very first appearance at catcher. By the time Hoover came in and settled, the game was over.

Also, I know this is a recruiting update but this past week, some revisions were made to the softball recruiting ranking.

Next years 2018 class is ranked #8 (Two top 20 players and one top 50 player)

The 2019 class is ranked #6 (we have two top 15 players committed)
