Advantages - Defense takes a break, Prevents big play.

Disadvantages - Keeps defense on the field, lose field position, die a slow death.

Just wondering why some DC's favor one over the other.

Personally, in our conference, where speed is a big factor.....
a soft defense will loose you the game against opponents with speed.
That extra 1/2 second for read/react(softness), can allow 2-3 yards head-start.
Chavis' style worries me. ...Florida has speed and he could not deal with FL while at Tenn.
...and now Alabama and Ole Miss.

I am still "on the fence" seeing what /how he will call the games.
I was not impressed by the Washington game.

...I think some coaches believe this method keeps the action "in front" of them" and prevents the big play, I am not sure that's true, nor that a game is not lost 2-3 yds at a time. Furthermore, it has to be hard on the defense seeing yards being accumulated....TIME WILL TELL for us.
Too early.

I think we can look forward to hearing "keeping it in fron of us" a lot this season

A soft defense does not work in the SEC. Soft defenses are made for teams that play in the Big 12 where each team runs up 500 yards of total offense each game.

Maybe if our tackling was a little bit better, we could have prevented some of those half arse plays that turned into big ones by Washington. Bottom line, I just don't think Chevis will ever be able to produce a defense like Muschamp did, but I hope he can improve us.

Chavis can improve us, but we will never have a smothering defense like we did under saban, as long as Les Miles is here.

NEVER is a long time, but, I do not see it under Chavis...so let's see what Miles real attitude towards Chavis is..???? the future will tell.

WINNING cures all, or at least disguises any weaknesses.

the "nick saban mentality" from the program is gone.

doing the small things to perfection and "dominating the person in front of you" philosophy is gone it would seem.

Seriously. The coach who has never posted back to back 10 win seasons! That is what you long for- a great defense, and a sometimes winning program! I'll take winning over stats everyday.
