Bama crafted that statement for Mathis to say to damage LSU recruiting.

I doubt bama told him to say that, but they told him that plenty of times and he believed it.

Mathis was buying into everything Bama was feeding him. The comments made by Mathis just weren't true

Pete said in an interview that he still talks to Saban. He left because of the way Saban was running himself and the coaches on fumes. He mentioned that he told Saban then that one day, he himself would get burnt out and couldn't keep up that pace forever. In the interview, Pete said Saban told him that he's tired. Take that for whatever it's worth, but Pete definitely left because of the way they were being worked. No family time or breaks whatsoever.

At one time Pete was the best recruiter on the staff. I used to talk to him when we still did the "Year Round Tiger Boosters". He is a great person!
