Most of those cases involved other offenses like people who did NOT pass the sobriety test and were charged with DUII or people who were swerving.

Please show me where it says that, because this is the entire paragraph:

quote:

Captain Gregg stressed that the drop in citations in 2008 does not indicate the dangers associated with high speed drivers disappeared. The following are several examples from 2008 of those who didn't seem to get the message. Most were stopped and cited or arrested, but as you will note a couple were involved in a more serious incident because they were driving at dangerous speeds.

And it says nothing about sobriety tests or swerving.

But speeding alone won't do it.

Yes, it CAN.

If you find proof that a non-OU athelete was jailed for the exact same circumstances, you'd have a point.

I just want to see this written down once...

Three or 4 black males under 25 that do not play sports at any major college and are not entertainers, in a rental car not in any of their names, are pulled over on the interstate doing 118mph in the middle of the night by a white officer, and when asking the driver for his license (which he doesn't have) he smells pot...which leads to no search of the car and only a ticket for the driver.

Yep...I can see that.

Louisiana and Oregon are just really different.

The player would have absolutely been arrested/suspended down here.

I have absolutely no doubt that this situation would have resulted in someone going to jail if that rental car were pulled over in Louisiana.

Oregon prefers to let the courts levy heavy fines rather than fill the jails.

But again, had Harris failed the sobriety test he would have been arrested for sure. DUII is treated every bit as harshly here but the officer can't arrest someone for DUII unless he has sufficient evidence they are still intoxicated.

So being cited for driving 118 mph in Oregon ALWAYS results in the driver getting arrested?

God damn, not another one.

You make it sound like getting arrested is a GOOD thing!

FIFY

Does no one see that having fewer arrestable offenses AND having fewer driving fatalities AND having lower car insurance rates is actually a GOOD THING???

Y'all are all about, "Damn, more people need to go to jail and shite."

I'd still like to know who really got him the money to pay his fines and who the "unidentified person" was that paid for the rental car.

Those are easy ones. A)His family paid for his fines. I do not know if it was a loan or a gift. But it was his mom and dad. I do not think they are wealthy. I assume they were not happy. But CLiff could never play again until all his fines were paid off and current on everything.

His friend, probably the former Duck player who had the license, went in with Cliff to pay for the rental, to CLiff's Girlfriend. But its not like its some big unnames person. It was one of the people in that same car that also wanted to go on the trip splitting the day's rental. Man, desperate for a big conspiracy are we?

I was referring to the case summaries. Which admittedly aren't complete but more than a few make reference to a charge of DUII or reckless driving.

Driving 118 does not automatically get one charged with reckless driving in Oregon.

The officer has latitude in determining whether the driver was being reckless and speeding or just speeding.

Dude ur a homer. Please stop posting no one wants to read your shite anymore. They got special treatment. They had a car whom the driver was going 120 in a smoke filled piece of shite rental with a suspended license. They didn't even search the car what kind of shite is that. In Louisiana, those kids would be fricked

Man, desperate to accept the word of your coach and players are we?

Don't worry. Unless Yahoo Sports starts sniffing around, we'll never know for sure.

Quit being so defensive.

And not to mention, even if a cop tries to arrest someone that was in no way driving bad(speed itself is not necessarily wreckless)In Oregon those cases where a cop cannot prove such a driver was indeed driving terrible will get thrown out. Remember, in Oregon, there is a lessor offense the Wreckless Driving but heavier then Speeding and that is careless driving. Careless is just a ticket. But the wreckless charge is a arrest. But from my knowledge, most wreckless charges get dismissed as one really needs a cop to prove how so and for sure so.

Wait...being surprised that someone wasn't arrested after being pulled over for doing nearly 120mph in a rental care not in their name without a valid driver's license and with the smell of pot lingering in the air equals the desire to have a police state?

Hyperbole much?

As far as laws and rights. I measure a State Liberal or not more with gun rights maybe then anything. I have to ask. Is it easy to get a concealed weapon permit in LA? In Oregon it is, as it is a "shall issue" state, unless you have a felony, or a misdemeanor in the last 4 years I believe. And you only have to sit in a boring class for 4 hours and no test. And in Oregon you can have fully automatic weapons provided you paid for the federal stamp and have the stamp on you or with such weapon.

Nah, they just wanted to see a Duck get the hammer.

I get that.

Here's the thing...

Harris is suspended for the LSU game anyway. So whatever crimes he should have been arrested for or not arrested for, while interesting banter, is a moot point for LSU.

Thomas should be the real topic of conversation, not Harris.

Should Darron Thomas have been arrested or cited? Should the officer made Thomas walk the line and do a sobriety test? Pat him down and search him for product? In Louisiana, I could see a cop making everybody in the car stretch out their palms on the hood and get searched.

But as others have pointed out, if Thomas were suspended for the LSU game then a win over Oregon wouldn't be viewed as significantly as it would be if we beat them with Thomas. And if we lose to Oregon without Thomas, the meltdown on the Rant will be epic. shite, UNC had 6 players suspended and we escaped by our scrotum hairs.

I'm sure Oregon would have loved to play a Cam-less Auburn and take home the crystal football but they know it would have been a little hollow.

So let Thomas play. And after we beat Oregon print up T-shirts that say "We Just Smoked All Those MFers from Eugene."
