So, As It Turns Out, The 2014 Tigers Were Not As Talented As Previous...

Tiger teams (at least not relative to draft eligible players). Maybe that is why we took a step back record wise as well. Teams like Mississippi State had 5 or 6 players drafted. So, the bottom tier SEC schools may be catching up too.

It all is really inconsequential in the grand scheme, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

No first rounders (though the Collins matter may have factored into that happening) and really a lackluster draft overall for LSU as compared to most Miles teams.

What does this result from, attrition or just a dip in recruiting three or four years ago?

What draft eligible players are likely to be drafted in 2016?

I like our talent right now (outside of QB), and think we will be "more talented coupled with experience" in the fall.

The correlation between draft eligible talent and record is interesting to me though (and fuel for those that believe Miles can only win with overwhelming talent at his disposal).

We were one of the youngest teams in the country, probably has something to do with it.

I think you have to wait for the next 2 years of the draft to say that.

I agree - hence the references to draft eligible talent. The amazing NFL attrition with the loss of underclassman LSU has experienced in the recent past plays into why we had to play young (and I hope will result in a nice run in the near future with talented and experienced players).

Every draft eligible playing leaving school early the last 3 years, minus La'el Collins.

I don't know who or what is to blame but the Dline has suffered in the draft in recent years.

I think that is the confluence of poor evaluation, less in-state talent and poor coaching on the part of Haley.

I know for a fact that the LSU coaches feel they overvalued Bain and Gilmore and that they have been a big disappointment on campus.

I think we will see that change rather quickly with Haley's replacement.

So we bitch when everyone gets drafted. Then we bitch when nobody gets drafted. Got it. Can we just start a Bitch Board?

Very few Seniors to begin with. Then most of our best players were all Fresh-Soph. This year was a heavy WR draft, we had zero draftable draft eligible Wr's this draft class.

Terrance Magee probably should've been drafted, was really right on the cusp in the 7th rd.

With all of that said, La'El Collins no question is a 1st rd pick if the story never comes up.

Off the top of my head...

Vadal Alexander
Jerald Hawkins
Ethan Pocic (if he declares but I doubt he will after a position change)
Travin Dural
Dillon Gordon (I honestly think somebody will see him as a valuable goal line/situational blocker)
Deion Jones (if he finally has a breakout year)
Jalen Mills
Jamie Keehn (you never know with those Australian punters)
Kendell Beckwith
Dwayne Thomas
Tre'davious White

Tre' White will likely come out early.

Lamar Louis, LaCouture, Tre White are all strong possibilities.

I've been waiting for 3 days for someone to say this out of pure ignorance. Other than Collins and Hunter, prior to the season I didn't see anyone else as a huge NFL pick. Jalen surprised me but he benefited from Robinson being a head case.

I am only pointing out that this year was different - for a number of reasons. Draft eligible talent was not there this year for the most part. Many of the draft eligible guys that did return, returned because their prospects of getting drafted were low and they have hopefully learned from the past mistakes of other Tigers as well.

Also, we had young, inexperienced talent that contributed to us having an 8-5 season - and not winning 10 or more games.

Lamar Louis, LaCouture

Louis has been unable to achieve any consistent playing time throughout the entirety of his career. Plus, he is vastly undersized for a linebacker.

LaCouture very well might be a middle-round draft pick in 2017 but he certainly hasn't proven himself worthy of foregoing his senior year. Then again, maybe both he and Godchaux will benefit immensely from improved play by the defensive ends.
