I believe his goal is to get used to going every five while keeping his innings low. Then, after five or so starts in the minors, we can stretch him out. Looking at his pitch count, he has thrown 46, 44, 55, and 65, so he is throwing more pitches as he goes, and they did allow him to pitch into the fourth in his most recent start.
