Floyd has a 6.48 era in 7 SEC starts lol

That better than South Carolinas Friday IIRC from Hunts show today. There may be others he’s better than.

Dollander is over 5. Sproat and Waldrep are both around 6.

ETA: SEC games only.

Floyd has shown he can go 8+ Innings vs an SEC opponent. That’s his upside. Nobody else on LSU’s staff…including Skenes has done that.

Needs to be more consistent obviously.

They’re all bad. The only one similar is the kid from South Carolina.

A&M, Ole Miss, and OU fielded .966, .972, and .972 respectively last year and were part of the final four in Omaha. Arkansas fielded .982 and nothing to show for it.

Yeah. And TAMU got a lot of breaks with seeding (OU on their side) and errors that didn’t kill then to get to the last 4 but eventually it hit them. OM was not the same Ole Miss team by then as we all know. As far as TAMU, they were also relentless with small ball baseball much like UK but not as good at fielding. They were hit a lot, hit for average, very high OB%.

They also had WAY more walks and steals than LSU with the same BA.

LSUs pitching had a better era in 2022 but the Whip and BA against is better this season. Skenes is the one difference in an inning eater and dominant guy.

Skenes
Floyd

Coleman, Herring, Ack, Guidry, Cooper, Little, Hurd can all give you 2 solid innings

They are all better than league average (6.21). Floyd does not.

It’s almost like forcing pitchers to throw everything down the middle hurts everyone except the guy who can throw it 101 mph.

You’re splitting hairs. A 1 run difference in terms of ERA isn’t that significant for a starter. It’s basically a total of 3 runs over his 7 starts.

Floyd would have to throw a complete game shut out to get his ERA in between the two Florida pitchers (5.10)

That’s not really splitting hairs for someone who averages 4.2IP per start in the SEC.

He could give up just two runs over his next 10 innings to drop to 5.40. That’s definitely possible vs our next two opponents.

I’m more concerned about how he performs in the postseason, not necessarily where his ERA ends up. LSU’s season will be directly tied to that.

Though Auburn did just take a series from SC on the road.

Why? I don’t see how he can’t ramp as our other pitchers have. He’s fully cleared.

i have to assume that the coaches are being cautious. tired muscles are where injuries tend to happen. Coleman may become a starter, but that will be next year.

Friday - The coaches seem to have settled on Herring following Skenes. And it has been a winning combination.

Saturday - Floyd has the ceiling to throw a CG, and the floor to go 2...good thing that this offense will keep you in about every game. If you get the floor...then you still have options: Cooper, Ack, Money, Hurd, Collins, Money.

Sunday - Money and Hurd are both effective enough for long outings on most Sundays (after Little goes 3 and assuming they did not pitch Saaturday). And moreso against a against regional #4.

Next "level" starter would be Collins and Dutton. Even with the injuries that this team has experienced, there are options to win. Keep in mind, that we have not even gotten into the fact that this LSU lineup is as good as any lineup in the country. Enjoy the ride padnuhs.

I bet Coleman goes 60 pitches next outing, then 80 the next week. Coach said he has recovered from Tommy John faster than anyone he’s seen. He could easily be ready to start and go 5-6 innings in playoffs. Don’t you think that’s what Coleman is aiming for?

If a batter sees Money twice, well does not bode well for Money.

you may be right. no matter what he does in his next outing, I will cheer him along. FTR I do believe that if your opinion winds being correct, that Coleman will absolutely become a weekend starter.

I don't disagree necessarily. He's been most effective in stints where he knew he was only going one inning.

His most effective multi-inning category of outings is when he faces 9 or fewer batter.

In either case, he's able to provide valuable innings. I think you can extend him to 11 or 12 batters if you bring him in to face the 7,8, or 9 hitter first. That way he's not being seen more than once by the top of the order.
