So the timing of a cupcake game is what tips the scales in the SEC's favor? Hardly.

Well you could argue that if Oregon had played Stanford last week and Tennessee Tech this week and Alabama had played Western Kentucky last weekend and A&M this weekend that Oregon would be number 2 right now. As to the intention of his article, who really knows other than Mandel himself. However, i read it as more of a respons to people like Musberger and other national media guys who HAD been calling out the SEC for what was dubbed "our annual cupcake week." IMO, Mandel was pointing out that other conferences play just as many cupcakes as the SEC they just play them earlier, and that as long as scheduling cupcakes stays a common practice in the NCAA, the SEC is smart to schedule some late. Plus he did the SEC's tough in-conference slate some recognition in his paragraph on Florida playing everyone early

Not only that, but the article is a giant tip of the hat to the SEC without any sarcasm that I can see.

that is exactly what it is. People need to read the article before commenting on it

Bama has played 2 solid teams this entire season, got substantially outgained both times, went 1-1, and is in prime position to play in the National Championship.

To be fair they will have to beat Georgia, but still that's how it is for most teams not named LSU. I mean Oregon would've had Stanford, Oregon State, and UCLA. Georgia had Florida, South Carolina, and Alabama. Notre Dame had Oklahoma, Stanford. Kansas State woud've had Oklahoma and i guess Texas? Ok state? Regardless, it really seems like LSU is habitually the only title contender going through 4 and 5 top 15 teams every year.

I think he is correct. Alabama had only two tough games on the back end of their season and they lost one, and should have lost both. Now they play a junior division directional school and that puts them back on top? You've got to agree with Mandel's point that these late season patsy games shouldn't result in big jumps for the winners. Why is a one loss Alabama automatically ahead of a one loss Oregon or K. State? And why is Florida even being discussed as a contender?

He's a smug prick because you disagree with him? Dudes just doing his job.

Yes. That's exactly it. I call everyone a smug prick who disagrees with me.

You can have your opinion. And anyone who called me out for not reading the article can say what they want. IDGAF.

The article was dripping with sarcasm (which I said before which u obviously didn't read). That means you chimed in without reading the thread. Congrats.

So does that article hold true this week? Is it right to lump all of the SEC in one category because we all played cupcake games the same week? Do we have a master plan as he suggested? We have had a homecoming game with an easy opponent as long as I can remember. Some SEC schools have OOC rivalries at the end of the year. The article is a shite-stirring piece that makes the SEC look like a bunch of conspirators who all scheduled their cupcakes on one day.

And like I said, if he wants to call out particular teams within the SEC (cough...BAMA) then do so. Don't lump is all in. Like the earlier poster said, he put us down...then gave enough compliments to justify it.

If any of you think he was commending the SEC then "you are so dumb, you are really dumb...fo' real."
