Many never expected he would actually come up until this week where he reached a firm decision to skip mlb for LSU. They felt we have seen this all before with such highly rated pitchers to ditch their commitment late..

He originally was committed but was open to the possibility of a number.. However, he has prayed and discussed with his family and believes LSU is where he should be. He's really impressed with pitching coach Dunn's knowledge and faith. I think he believes he can really improve himself at LSU. He seems like an incredibly sincere young man.. Just like Alex Lange. We are truly blessed to have such high character guys lead the future of LSU baseball.

Thank God this kid was drafted in the 30th round or I might presume that tweet was just a negotiation ploy.

Um he sent out word to every mlb team literally right before the draft he was coming to LSU no matter what.

That is why he went that late. Teams didn't even care to take a late flyer on him until the Tigers of Detroit in the 30th

Texas prep star Cole McKay confirmed Monday that he has informed the 30 Major League Baseball franchises that he intends to honor his commitment to LSU and will enroll in school in August.

Ranked as a top-100 draft pick in several projections, McKay said the notion of working with the LSU coaches -- pitching coach Alan Dunn in particular -- was the final deciding factor for him.

Although LSU-committed pitcher Cole McKay said this week he planned to honor his pledge to the school, the Detroit Tigers picked the 6-foot-5 right-hander from Spring Branch, Texas, in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

McKay had been thought of as a possible first-day pick in the three-day, 40-round draft that will conclude Wednesday. The Tigers took him with the No. 910 overall pick.

Baseball America listed McKay as the No. 96 prospect before the draft, where he would have held a signing bonus slot value in the $600,000 range. McKay said the chance to work with LSU coaches, including pitching coach Alan Dunn, was the final deciding factor for him.

He went in the 30th round because he said he was committed to LSU. What's not to believe?
