Hodson is highly overrated compared to great QBs but LSU fans make him out to be Peyton Manning.

Yeah, 4 time All SEC and won the SEC 2 out of 4 years. Talk about overrated.

LSU qb's in the past 10 years alone I would prefer on the team over JR (no particular order)

Rohan Davey
Matt Flynn
Matt Mauck
Jarrett Lee

The college level game did not slow down for JR until the last half of his last year. Why anybody expected him to be ready to play in the NFL before 3-4 years in a system is beyond me.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call him "overrated" (his 4 year stats pretty much speak for themselves), but Hodson was blessed with getting to play with some phenomenal receivers, while at LSU.

Early Doucet and Dwayne Bowe weren't exactly slouches.

I think he thinks Gruden was his coach in Oakland

This can't be said enough as well. I really don't understand the joy I see some LSU fans get from his setbacks

I'll still say that the Raiders drafting JR did him more of a disserves than anything else to be honest.

Indeed. Was in no way meant as a comparison to Russel.

Lee, Flynn, and Mauck couldn't hold the jock of Russell as far as playing in college goes.

very lucky to fall into the situation that the 2003 season was. I can remember he didn't play all that great against Ole Miss & Oklahoma that season.

To me it's a moot point. Any Qb in LSU's case that is regarded highly had pretty good wide receivers.

I read the article. I have a little more sympathy for his early career at Oakland. Although I've never been down on him for being a lousy QB at Oakland. But he doesn't really seem serious about playing football again. He doesn't address the workouts last year at all. One was with Patriots is I remember correctly.

Hopefully he can hang on to his money.

I totally agree. He really needed the Carson Palmer/Aaron Rodgers treatment. But because Oakland (the shittiest organization in sports at the time) reached for him big time, and because he essentially lost his rookie year, he was set up for failure.
