Just curious if you all think Todd Walker's number 12 will be retired in the near future. He and Dr. Furniss both had excellent careers at LSU and I wonder what is keeping Todd from receiving the same honor.

The LSU policy is that you must graduate from LSU ( Pete being the only exception ). That is why Todd is not retired.

Todd was better than Furniss, but only stayed 3 years, so he didn't amass the career numbers and records Furniss did. Also, he was only on 1 NC team to Furniss' 2. And the whole "didn't graduate" thing. But I'm not sure tha a) Todd didn't eventually graduate, or b) that rule us still in effect.

Yes, they should retire it. He was a better ball player than Furniss.

Yes! One of the most deserving players to have their number retired.

Here are the requirements for a player to have his jersey retired taken from LSUSports.net:
quote:

To have a jersey retired at LSU, an athlete must have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five years prior to nomination. Athletes must have demonstrated truly unusual and outstanding accomplishments, exceeding and in addition to all criteria used for Hall of Fame selection. The athletic performance must be considered unique, such as winning of a Heisman Trophy or National Player of the Year award, and should be based on the total LSU career. Athletes may also be considered for making dramatic impact on the popularity of his or her sport or for significant participation in positive change in LSU Athletics. Nominees must have a unanimous vote of support from the Hall of Fame committee.
ETA: LINK

Several posters have mentioned graduating as a requirement. That's not in the requirements shown above.

The graduation requirement was for having a statue of a player honoring him and recently that requirement has been changed to having completed 100 credit hours.

So back to the OP, does Todd Walker meet the above requirements?

Walker is in both the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame and the College Baseball Hall of Fame. (Only Skip and Ben McDonald from LSU are also in that HoF.)

So, yes, I think he meets the requirements.

Todd Walker was the best pure hitter to come through LSU.

I have (about a month ago) searched in vain to find the actual bylaws/regulations/whatever of the selection committee. I understand that the minutes may be kept "secret" but being a public university I'd assume that all of the bylaws are a matter of public record. The nearest thing I have found are the university regs stating who is put on the committee and how.

If someone has the link to a pdf of them then I'd be more than happy to look through them and find the actual written rules regarding such.

I remember the first game after they raised the center-field wall at the Box... he hit that damned added section twice that game!

You right dumbshit. I just guessed. But why didn't I call him Albert? I didn't say he was best, I said good too. It's assholes like you who know zero about sports and come here thinking they know something. Get a life shitface. Your "funny" comments are not funny
