SF - Eric Reid expected to start

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers S Eric Reid is expected to start at one of the team's safety positions this season.

[ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ]

No surprise here. Reid is an enforcer who loves to make the big hit. He often played as an extra linebacker in the box for the Bayou Bengals. Reid could be asked to play a similar role for the 49ers.

That's pretty expected considering Reid was drafted to replace the starting FS they let go in free agency.

This, and defensive players drafted that high aren't typically back-ups unless they are underperforming

It's going to be hard to replace Dashon Goldson in his first year.

His first start will be against Aaron Rodgers, but he will have one of the best front sevens in front of him.

The Niners defense will be a nightmare next year.

When you've got great CBs like Peterson and Claiborne, your safteies can cheat up and play the run more.

don't really see how this is surprising...

He was taken in the 1st and they needed someone to replace Goldson immediately.

I feel like he did play in the box some earlier in his career when Mathieu, Claiborne, PP7, Taylor, etc could handle the receivers

Roger Goodell will have him on the carpet the first week. No place for hitting in Goodell's NFL.

He didn't play much inside the box during his Fr & Soph yr.

Most underrated asset to that secondary.

He played close to the line a good bit. He was great against the run.

That's awesome, but in all fairness, anyone taken in the 1st round should have the ability to step in right away and start. Obviously some people may not start until the last few weeks of their rookie year.

Definitely a bad boy... I thought when we packed the box that Loston primarily moved up and Reid just roamed as a single safety.
