My point is that Etling definitely won't be an NFL QB-but he can be an effective college QB similar to McCarron or McElroy....manage the game, make some throws and don't get the team in trouble

He does get the team in trouble, by leading the team to constant 3 and outs and 7 points against Mississippi State. I will agree that the offensive play calling has been horrendous. As a coordinator, you have to identify your weakness and keep your opponent from exposing it. Ours has not done that at all. With a weak QB and offensive line, we should be spreading the field and throwing quick passes to slow down the pass rush. With that being said, Danny is not very accurate on the shorter routes and his timing is awful, with his pass to Gage being an exception. You have to be able to "throw guys open" in a short passing game, and he has not shown that ability very often. Only utilizing 7 step drops on obvious passing downs, will make the o-line look even worse than it is. Quick passes to a spread out receiver group will allow the QB to not be pressured and will open running lanes. This is what should be called when Brennan gets his opportunity.
