SEC Officials

So the Auburn fiasco in 2006 resulted in the SEC officials saying nothing. They never admitted to one blown call (out of the 4 obviously missed, redzone, first awarding plays). Now, they apologize to UGA, but still stand firm that Charles Scott is wrong to thank God for a big play.
There's only one obvious explanation, SEC officials hate LSU.

No explanation of the non fumble called fumble out of bounds either.

quote:That cost us a couple of yards. Was that the drive where we didn't convert on 4th down?

jmtiger,
Yes, that was the Hester fumble out of bounds.
Out of all the hoopla about the other bad calls, that one was to me the worst. It isn't as subjective as pass interference. We clearly had a 1st down, and I believe it was around the 8 or 9 yard line. We get that first and we likely win the game.

Germans.
We've known all along that, although the SEC has some of the best teams in the country, it also has the worst officiating.
What bothers me even more than the bad calls, though, is that they felt they had to make up for the bad call against Georgia by making the same (bad) call against LSU. Good officiating does not try to "even up" one bad call by making another bad call against the other team.

I think that the "nonfumble that was ruled a fumble out of bounds" that LSUGradATL was referring to was the play in the UGA game when Shepard got planted and the ball came loose when he hit the ground. The ball rolled back two yards and out of bounds. The replay officials never stopped the play to review it.
The play that you are referring to in 2006 Auburn game was the game changed IMHO. Hester obviously caught the ball and fumbled which would have been a first down. That was the call on the field, but "conclusive video evidence" saw it as an incomplete pass, and we turned the ball over on downs. That changed the game in my opinion.

quote:That was a horrendous call! Hester caught the ball and took two steps before being stipped! No catch my arse!

Thanks Terry for getting my blood pressure back up.
Yeah, that was why it was such a horrendous call. The call on the field was a catch and fumble, and the announcers and everyone watching it on replay was pretty sure the call would be upheld as Hester took almost 2 steps after catching the damn ball.
That call made an absolute mockery of the "conclusive evidence" standard for reviews and was why I thought it was the worst of the game (but not the most bitched about).
