All lower seeds win on day 1 of the tourney. I know some of the higher seeds (LSU) did not pitch their ace, but it goes to show how deep this conference is.

I agree, but one other thing (and this happens every year) is teams on the bubble seem to be more focused and play better in the crunch.

Vandy was playing to assure themselves a spot in the field of 64 next week, and they did. No one else was in danger, I think, but they all helped their causes nonetheless.
SEC will for sure get 8 teams, by far the most of any conference in the nation.
Also, LSU knew that a loss to Vandy and a loss to either Bama or USC likely wouldn't knock them out of the top 8 (those aren't the world's worst losses in the end), so the urgency and intensity may not have been present.
ETA: Where you end up in the top 8 really doesn't matter. You aren't paired up in the super regional based on seeding anyway, just on proximity. And if you get to Omaha, everyone is tossing their ace in game 1, so it'd be showdown no matter the seeding.

True, but I'm not letting LSU off the hook anymore against lefties. We are 14-13 against them, and few have been the quality of Minor.
