Haha ooooo I am scared. They just did a story saying a player was paid to come here. Was that correct? Or was his apartment paid for. Big difference. And why did they pull it?

I knew it!!! I called it in my last post, in fact!
Only a newsie would spout off that tripe about it being the job of newsies to "keep the gov't in check"!

No, a story should not be squelched because of school pride.
But after Watergate, every writer wants to break the next "Watergate" and stories are rushed out filled with inaccuracies and distortions.
Bobby Knight had it right as far as these whores: "We learn to write in the second grade. Most of us go on to better things."

I'm done...I've got to do stuff with my life and you need to go back to writing about what people like me are doing with our lives (and for our communities).

Lost in the argument here is one simple fact:
if you don't want to get written about, don't do it!
if you don't want to get written about, don't do it!

Wrong...I agree with him. The 4th Estate serves a critical role in our country.

What makes you think these reporters give 2 craps about LSU? Just because they go to school there doesn't mean they are diehard LSU fans.

Who said they have to be diehard LSU fans?

You asked them to put the school before the "news". I'm on your side fwiw.

I am just wondering if in the back of their minds, they are thinking " I can't believe I am doing this to my own school" or if they couldnt give a shite.

Until you meet some of the "journalists" that work at this autrocity of a "news source" you can't possibly fathom any reason behind what they do.

Imagine these kids aren't in school, but in the real world.
LSU isn't LSU..its the U.S. government.
Now..if the U.S. government were doing something improper, wouldn't you want the media to find out about it and report on it?
Isn't that their role? To be the watchdog of the government? Isn't that one of the primary reasons we have the First Amendment?
So...my answer is that I most certainly side with the Reveille. They have absolutely no responsibility to suck up to or kiss the arse of LSU or any of its affiliates.
That is the job of the LSU PR people...and trust me, there are plenty of those. Why would we want journalists to be PR professionals? Do you think our society would be better off because of that?
Frankly...your complaint is kinda scary. Now way Reveille writers should be deferential to the University as you are suggesting.

I love LSU football and LSU as a whole. Why would I want to make us look bad or even give the NCAA more info.
I mean....that's the Athletic Dept.'s job. Its rivals.com's job. Its not the Reveille's job to make LSU look good. Its the Reveille's job to find out what happened and report it.
At least they were trying to do that.

"Investigative journalists" create news instead of reporting it.
Wrong. The Reveille did not commit recruiting violations. DJ McCarthy did.
Woodward and Bernstein did not violate the law, Nixon and his staff did.

While I COMPLETELY AGREE with this notion, my issue with the Reveille, along with others like myself who had to "work" with them, is the fact that they will gladly go out of their way to fabricate something in order to make a story. I've seen them do this MANY times. And their "retractions" of this misinformation was just as amateur as the manner in which they promoted their lie.

Yes, EZE. I remember your story about the Reveille from the original thread on the article.
All I can say is that I am disappointed any Reveille writer would behave in the manner you described, and that all of the writers don't act that way.
If some writer was trying to make it big by fabricating a story.....frick them and I hope they get popped for it now that they are out there writing for a real newspaper...just like that a-hole from the NYT.

It was more than one. In fact, I will go ahead and say I had over FIVE "run ins" with these folks.

I understand this, but when we (my former office) would approach a writer that "didn't act that way", they did NOTHING to help the situation. There was the "fraternity" mentality in place there. Protect everyone at all costs..

Nope, the one who I had the worst encounter with graduated "with honors" and got into grad school to continue their trek into the wonderful world of journalism.
God, I'm so glad I no longer work with the dysfunctionals at LSU. Between the PhDs in administration and the classroom, and the "journalists" at the Reveille, that place was like its own little fricked up world.
And this is coming from someone who cried after they left "the best job in the world". LOL. Oh how things change.
