Outside of the questionable calls, lack of rebounding, and other things pointed out previously, do you agree that a bigger problem with our basketball team is no offensive strategy and poor defensive set ups are what derailed this season. Most, if not all, of the games I watched we never ran offensive plays outside of the pick and roll and I don’t know if that’s a called play. When the going got tough last night and slowed down offensively, we just ran down court and shot threes. Few to none passes before the shot, and often with 15-20+ seconds on the shot clock. On defense, our players are totally lost and do not communicate. No help defense, no switches, and wide open players seemed to be the constant last night. We have very talented players, but they need to realize when you play equal talent, brains/smarts is the difference.

We literally switched everything last night and helped everytime Dickinson caught the ball.

Our offense is predicated on spacing and mismatches, which worked last night. Cam, Smart, and watford got where they wanted at will. Watford just got beat up in the post and cam didn’t get any calls on drives

Agreed with everything except for the “offensive” problems. Wade has had our offense extremely efficient every year he has been here. The problem is defensively and with personnel. Thats it

We only shot 8 3s in the 2nd half

No. And neither do national esperts.

"derailed" is a bit of a stretch being that we made the tourney and advanced to the 2nd round. We fell to the #1 seed in our bracket after giving them one heck of a fight. But, yes. We did struggle defensively most of the season.

This team was much better in paying a full-court game as opposed to half-court.

no switches

That isn't true.

Watch again. Turn the Volume on. You should be able to hear at several separate plays being called by Wade. Come back and report on your findings for the class.

no switches,
Holy crap our defense is LITERALLY built on switching nearly everything. Again, watch more games.

1. Set plays are just not something that often happens.

2. The pick n’ roll is more complicated than you’re making it out to be. Typically picks happen within motion offenses that a school runs. I’m not sure what our overall scheme is, I haven’t watch enough this year to say, but there is offensive direction.

It seems Wade understood that he had play makers and wanted to maximize letting them create. I don’t see a problem with that if it works. Other years I’ve seen he ran a lot of motion stuff, but didn’t seem like he had the personnel for it this year.

3. I’m not sure how communication is on D, but they switch constantly. All you have to do is watch for five seconds to see that.

4. Some of our players are very smart.

5. I’m looking foreword to the future should Wade stay.

They are running offensive sets that use high ball screens. They run Cam Thomas off of pin down screens all the time. Just because the possession ends with an isolation does not mean there weren’t purposeful actions that lead to that isolation.

As far as not switching or helping on defense...I’m not sure what you’re watching out there. We switch a ton, and helped on Dickinson pretty much every time he got the ball. It wasn’t exactly crisp, which I think is partially on the coaching staff and partially on the players. But those things definitely happened

You people come out of nowhere and embarrass yourselves. You clearly barely watched LSU this season. “The games I watched”...how much was that. 3-4 games? Did you watch when we absolutely dominated St Bonny? Go back to whatever hole you were in

We have reached the portion of the season where the casual fan has tuned in for the first time all year...saw LSU lose...and then knows EXACTLY the team's deficiencies...despite the fact literally months of data and game play shows the exact opposite

I need to just not open basketball threads because apparently LSU has the most ignorant fan base of all

No.

La Tech (10) - 86
Ole Miss (20) - 75,76
Tennessee (13) - 78
Bama (15) - 60, 75, 80
St Bonaventure (21) - 76
Arkansas (23) - 92,75,78
St. Louis (38) - 81
Michigan (55) - 78

*Defensive efficiency rankings in parentheses

Now tell me again that our offense is a problem

Smart had more rebounds (9) than Days and Watford combined (7). That was a problem since Days only scored 6. We needed more production from those two to win. Watford missed too many free throws as well. LSU was obviously close as they had multiple leads throughout the game, but Cam and Smart were exhausted at the end and needed just a little more help.

We need 2 dudes off the bench that can get 8-12 points on their own.

and they typically throw in some basketball chagrin they remember from their junior high basketball days to sound like they know what they're talking about.

Lack of a true PG.

Or two guards that compliment each other, rather than having a clashing style

Lack of defined roles; too many tweener guards & big men

The point guard doesn’t come down the court holding up 4 (pick a number) fingers to signal the same plays they ran with their middle school team, so that means we play street ball .

I may have at one time but not anymore. Players have to buy in and when they don’t you’re left with creating more one on one matchups on offense and a defense that doesn’t match up well nor take it seriously.

All one has to do is go back and see how bad LSU was under Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones. We were horrendous on both ends. I’m happy we are making the tournament every year now and competing for conference championships. The rest will fall into place. Wade is our guy and hopefully gets better as time goes.
