No need when we consistently had 9 men lined up between the tackles.

Obviously not. Once again I'll ask, did Miss St ever have fewer than 8 in the box?

Probably not. Guess what. 5.7 ypc. LSU wins.

If we had gotten away from running Fournette it would have been the most idiotic shite I've ever seen.

i prefer LSU not have to depend on the opposition have a delay of game penalty to win.

I don't understand why attempting a few more passes = gotten away from running fournette? LSU ran 62 plays, fournette had 28 carries.

Whats the point? this years LSU team cannot simply rely on doing just enough to get by. the offense must keep defenses honest by being more balanced the entire four quarters, not just building a lead early and then relying on amazing defensive play. they simply do not have the numbers on defense like in years past.

LSU passed 3 conseq downs for 1/3 and 4 yds after the 3rd qtr fmask penalty 1st down The run ypa was about a yard better than pass and burned clock.
Runs on that drive alone may have negated the time for the drive of MSU missed fg attempt.
Keep with your strenths until the weakness improves, imo.

But why not just run on first down? LSU averaged over 5 yards per 1st down rush.

Agreed. Just cut out the double-reverses. We don't need those kind of trick plays. Add more misdirection.

1000 up votes, trick plays suck, a lil deception in our running game is all we need to win more and compete for the championship

This is simpleton logic only looking at one face value stat and not diving deeper.

We didnt score a single point on the final 4 drives of the game. Not 1. What did we do the final 4 drives of the game?

18 runs
4 passes

2 of those 4 passes were essentially run plays (WR screen to Dural)...so basically 20 run plays to 2 actual pass plays

You hint at 5.7 "ypc"

But in those 20 run plays we had 11, yes, ELEVEN go for 3 yards or less. that's pretty unproductive. 1 5 yard gain was on a 3rd and 16 too...meaningless.

You do realize in the first quarter we were avg like 8 or 9 yards per carry on first down against auburn it was 2nd down that we lost 5 yards, handed the ball off to the ghost in The left side of the backfield, or constantly shot ourselves in the foot. Brandon also couldn't hit the blindside of a barn this game on third down.

I expect that to be way different come saturday

Of course. They ran a 4-3 most of the game. That is seven in the box. They added an eighth later on, mostly. Not sure why people on this board have it so exaggerated in their heads. Look at tge toss lead analysis... 4-3 every time

Not really arguing with you, just pointing out that passing for the sake of passing or "mixing it up" isn't neccessarily some magic bullet for protecting a lead or sustaining drives unless you can execute. MSU still crowded LOS nextt possession and later gave their O a couple extra minutes to work with to even have a fg attempt.

All part of Les Miles grand strategy: confuse them to the point of making mistakes that cost them the game. We're not just a win, we're gonna win & make you think you won. Next year, when your all confident because you really "won" this year - we'll do it again.
You see kids, Les is inside the oppositions minds & thinking 2 years down the road.
