Rogers Redding was the coordinator of SEC Officials prior to Alabama grad Steve Shaw taking over. Redding recently vehemently defended the SEC (Shaw and Slive's job) when it was accused by Mike Pereira of Fox and the NFL of unfairly influencing calls.

Why is the coordinator of SEC referees an Alabama graduate? How long will this persist at the detriment of the other 13 teams?

He has to be from somewhere, and the SEC offices are in Birmingham.

My guess is that 90% of the workers in the SEC main office are either Alabama or Auburn graduates.

This is, and always will be, a legitimate question so long as the SEC already has a rule in place that does not allow alumni of a university to actively call games involving their own alma mater.

So, SEC...Steve Shaw could not call an Alabama game while wearing the stripes, but he can oversee ALL referees that call every game in the league, including his own? Makes sense...

Someone posted this a couple weeks ago on another thread. Makes sense.

"I have a friend who works at the SEC offices, She did not graduate from an SEC school and can care less about football. What she tells me is that almost every position of note is filled with a Bama guy, she says she sometimes feels like she is working for the University of Alabama. I don't know if that's cheating but it sure doesn't seem like much integrity."

THe officials have to be from somewhere and the offices are in B'ham. They didn't seem to help us much from 95-2000. I guess they had a wake up call. Also, most people form outside the SEC hate Bama to begin with because they gave the south (and Alabama) credibility in an area and usually, we have beaten their teams. I have been around enough to know that 2nd to ND, we are the most hated. Well, I understand the reason as well. Success breed contempt.

Look, I understand the angst but as Mark Schlabach told Brando a couple years ago when Brando was railing on Bama "I would be more concerned with LSU's far too often losses to Ole Miss and Arkansas than losing to Alabama".

I don't understand why as big as the ncaa is now that they continue to have conference officials???? Combine all conf officials and assign them based on regions. No bias that way bc very rarely will they have same time twice

My guess is they DID have a wake-up call, but it's obvious you haven't noticed the blatant no-calls in the gumps' favor or the blatant calls against their opponents over the last few years.

NO holding penalties against the gumps an entire season? Come on.

Now frick off and go back to the SEC boards, gump.

Well said!! LSU should be more worried about developing a QB. Unfortunately, we spend the majority of our time worrying about alabama. It's not like we have been a national juggernaut for many years (basically only from 2003 through 2011).

I love this line of thinking.

Tell you what...since you have no fears of the head of officiating and the vast majority of the SEC office leaning towards the schools they have the most attachment to based on their location, I'm quite sure we could dump everyone and move the offices east to NOLA.

I'm sure no one would have any issues with that...

My wife worked in the SEC office for 10 years. The only people with any real authority are Associate Commissioners and above. Here is the list with their alma maters:
Slive, Dartmouth College
Sankey, Syracuse
Womack, Alabama
Daniels, Georgia
Hussey, Ole Miss
Vincent, LSU
Whitworth, Asbury University

With the offices in Alabama, of course the lower positions will be filled with Alabama and Auburn grads.

Find another conspiracy theory to push.

Yes, because the head of SEC officiating has NO influence, whatsoever.

Thanks for your post. It goes to show that the diversity is at the very top, those with their "heads in the clouds" and not the ones who day-to-day, craft policy.

But as you say ... "nice try."

Who exactly do you think crafts policy for the SEC? Do you really think there is some low level employee crafting policy? The policies are set by the Commissioner only with acceptance of the university ADs.

Y'all are just looking for something to complain about.

Also, you're right that the Director of Officiating is a Bama grad. Do you think fans complained less about officiating when Rogers Redding or Bobby Gaston (both Georgia Tech grads) were in that position?

Nothing I or anyone else says will stop y'all from putting on your tin hats and spreading the conspiracies. Have fun.

I would have an issue with it! Cause I didn't know NOLA was East!

I think you should do a hard - hitting investigative piece on this little discussed and controversial subject. Pulitzer, anyone?

Yes. Womack is a Bama alum.
