What about when the "police officer" is in civilian clothes and does not adequately identify himself as a police officer?

At least according to the article, prior to punching the detective, Jefferson had witnessed him placing handcuffs on two separate suspects (the original arrestee and Sampson). Even assuming that the detective failed to verbally identify himself (and there is nothing in the article on that point), Jefferson still should have had a fairly firm notion that the detective was a police officer.

Come on, Jester, it's pretty dumb to punch a cop so your buddy can try to escape during the scuffle. It's not some awful felony, certainly, but it's stupid. Gotta admit that.

I won't disagree. That said, I don't believe the story as it is told. Do you really think he just ran up and started punching a cop? Like you said, that's pretty dumb.

No, I thought the most intelligent retort you are capable of providing is clicking 4 times on an emoticon.

Yes, Jester, it does go well beyond Mardi Gras.
It's just that Mardi Gras is when the police seem more dangerous than the rest to the population (which is usually drunk).
Knowing that, I have a completely open mind about what happened.
I also agree with you that using plain clothes officers for crowd control is counterproductive, at best. If that part is accurate, it strikes me as facially suspicious.

Who cares what we think about his family, we're just ranters on a board. His family shouldn't be directly affected by anything on here.

If, and I repeat if, he knew he was striking a policeman while that policeman was performing one of his legal functions, he needs to be released by LSU after LSU does a full investigation.

That said, if he wasn't JJ's brother this thread would never have made 5 pages.

The bitterness toward an X LSU player who some didn't want to play over their own favorite player is amazing to behold.

Or you could just point out their hatred for Shep.

Or RR when he tweeted about the offense.

But yeah, they LOVE LSU players.

So the only people who go to Mardi Gras should be New Orleans natives? That makes sense.

Selective LSU players. They f'king hate those that the fans feel didn't get a fair shake in some cases.

Hell, some of the cult members are turning on Chavis because of the praise he is getting.
