“Things happen for a reason and that’s what I was feeling in my heart when I chose my decision,” Latz said. “I’m going to stick with it and not look back. There’s no telling what would have happened. But this is what happened, this is what I chose, this is my life and I’m going to roll with it.”

He hopes to begin playing catch by next week. Latz has heard of players pitching six weeks after that, but he’s hesitant to set any timetable. Mainieri’s “holding out hope” for a late April return.

Weren't his parents against some sort of rehab or medicine? Did I just imagine this?

What I recall is when he first started experiencing pain in his elbow in the fall of 2014 none of the scans showed any structural damage. Then last spring practice the same thing happened. No MRI or x-ray showed structural damage. So his parents wanted him to try and rest it and rehab through it rather than have exploratory surgery to look around the elbow.

When an MRI this past fall showed a stress fracture, after getting several surgeons opinions, he and his parents agreed to surgery to correct it.

That was pretty damn short.

Glad he finally got the surgery and is on schedule.

I know Cory well. He's in great hands.

Watching Latz pitch this fall, I had him penciled in as the Sunday starter. He looked very good in the few innings that he threw. Hopefully, he comes back 100% healthy and ready to help LSU's run to Omaha.

He had the best numbers in the fall of his freshman year too. I thought he'd be the ace at that point. His stuff is really good and he keeps the ball down consistently. I know what he's going through. It's not a depression; more of a feeling of isolation. It's tough watching your friends that came in with you participate and succeed. I'm truly hoping for no more setbacks and that he can help this team at some point this year.

Hoping the timetable is true and not a rushed estimate. Adding Latz to the rotation would be big for the team with all these new faces.
