Honestly, I think they are very solid, but they are not top tier in ths conference. I've watched a lot of their games and they aren't Auburn or Miss St. defensively, and certainly not offensively.

They've padded some stats vs soft teams and they force and take advantage of turnovers. Going into and beating a very poor A&M team means nothing. They have wins over two of the bottom 4 SEC teams. The Bama win was solid, but Bama is not as good as Aub or MSU IMO.

LSU may not be a great team. But neither is Ole Miss. Add to that that they don't have much experience with success and I find it highly unlikely they will maintain it throughout the season.

They have the schedule in their favor, but until I see them beat us like Auburn or MSU did I refuse to believe they are a top 5 team.

They lose at least 2 games. I know we are good enough to be able to give them a loss. To consider they blow us out is laughable

They are a very good team. They are a better team in Oxford or likely at a neutral site as we sit here today - not because they have more talent, but because they have more talent and experience at key positions.

However, in Tiger Stadium, at night, anything is possible.

Are you kidding me? Ole Miss has a much better defensive unit [Especially secondary than either one of the teams you mentioned above]

No they don't. Alabama, @ A&M, Tennessee, @LSU & Auburn isn't a "Favorable" schedule in the least bit.

Well, looking at the schedule..

They went to the 4th up 7-3 at home against Memphis 1 month ago.

They gave up 400 yards to Bama and pulled out a solid win at home.

Vandy and UT are garbage. Those wins aren't even in the same league as wins over UF and UK.

Ole Miss is due for a wake-up call and LSU is the perfect team to give it to them. If our coaches understand that we will need to throw in some screen passes, quick routes, etc. to keep Ole Miss' defense on their heels, then we can pull this off.

I like LSU 20-17.

Nope, as this was my post prior to that game
quote:

If you look at this game objectively you will see this game will be a battle. To think we will dominate this team is crazy, but if we do dominate it will tell us a lot about the tigers. This is Jennings first SEC start, Prescott is a better QB at this point. Our offensive line has not looked as advertised, especially against a competetive D line. MSU has legitimate all sec players in Jones on DL and McKinney at LB. Furthermore, they have more speed on Defense than Wisconsin which will make outside runs difficult. Jennings and our WR have yet to establish short to medium passing offense. Prescott will be able to scramble much better than any QB we have faced and could extend drives. Although I agree their WR are overmatched, prescott could scramble enough to create coverage breakdowns. We have looked better in the middle of our D lately, but I consider it still unproven based on competition. If our D continues to play assignment football MSU will have a tough time. MSU is capable of big plays, which is what hurt us vs Wisconsin. We are better special teams wise, and it's a night game in TS. Obviously, we have the advantage in this game and should win. We will lose if we don't protect the ball and give them easy scoring chances. To think this game is a blowout is sunshine pumping at its best.

But thanks for assuming!

LSU has no QB
LSU is one trick pony running up the middle

Their D line is their best attribute

To think a blow out loss is impossible is laughable

I did until I saw what they have done in subsequent games. I now believe they are the real deal, with their secondary being the only weak link.

Huh? Their defense is better than both of those teams. Aren't they ranked #1 in scoring D? The most they have given up is 20 points and that was to aTm who scored a garbage TD on the last play of the game.

Their offense isn't as good as the others, but they have an effective offense. They don't need to score a ton of points with their D. They put up enough scores to win. I think they're 30th is scoring offense.

It's a decent matchup for LSU because Ole Miss hasn't been a great running team and that has caused us some issues. They are good passing the ball and pass D is our strength. We will likely need our QB to be more accurate for us to win. Hopefully we'll see a lot of rollouts because Jennings throws better on the run.

They certainly don't have experience winning meaningful road games. These are their road wins in the last 3 seasons:
2012 - Arkansas (in Little Rock)
2013 - Vanderbilt and Texas
2014 - Vanderbilt and Texas A*M

They weren't that hyped at the time. They weren't even ranked.

It's not so much as Ole Miss is great, it's that LSU is that bad offensively.

I would love to watch an lsu offense take the field and not cringe every time the ball is snapped.

FFS, we've been over this. Alabama isn't great at putting points on the board (see Arkansas), and that's by far their best win. Tennessee and Vandy are downright pathetic at putting points on the board. A&M certainly seems to be going downhill fast, so holding them to 20 probably isn't anything to write home about either.

They did a relatively good job keeping Boise St. and ULL off the board, 13 and 15 respectively, but I think despite our problems, the LSU offense is talented enough to do better than either of those.

I agree, people seem to be just lumping Mississippi State and Ole Miss together even though the teams aren't on the same level.

Ole Miss is 84th nationally in rushing offense and the offense starts slower than LSU's. This is a team that had 3 at the half against Alabama, 7 at the start of the 4th quarter against Boise State, and 7 at the start of the 4th quarter against Memphis. And they have the worst special teams of anyone we play.

The Rebels may win, but this is certainly the best matchup for LSU in the top 10, possibly top 20.

I don't know, what about West Virginia says "great defense" to you?

EDIT: The 'eers give up 27 ppg, but if you take out Towson and Kansas (who scored 14 points combined), that average goes over 35.

Ole Miss is a very good team. I would say almost great if not great. LSU will have to play their best football of the year to win. I say its a fg either way....I like our kicker!
