Don't get me wrong. This edition is horrible. I made my first trip to the PMAC since '04 for the Alabama game two weeks ago. Sad team and atmosphere was just somber.

With that said, the 1966-1967 team was Press Maravich's first team. Remember, freshman were not eligible for varsity play until the 1972-1973 season so young Pete could only play freshman ball.

The team went 3-23 and 1-17 in SEC play. The three wins came against Tampa, a "College Division" team at the time which would be considered Division II today, Tulane and Georgia. The win over Tampa was a two point win on the road after a home season opening loss to Southeastern Louisiana(LSU also lost to Loyola-New Orleans on the road)

Tulane and LSU played home and home each year after the Wave's departure from the SEC through the 1980-1981 season. The two spilt that year each winning at home by 10 points. The lone conference win was over Georgia,87-85.

The largest deficit was a 36 point loss to Texas in Baton Rouge. The highlight of the year may have been a 79-77 loss to ninth ranked Vanderbilt at home. The Tigers closed out the season with a 9 point loss in Nashville to Vandy, ranked #9 still who finished 2nd in the SEC behind Tennessee. The Vols walloped LSU both times 76-59 and 87-60.

The old Cow Palace would be full for the freshmen games, and almost empty out before the varsity game. It was sad.

That team didn't quit.

Brady's first year was especially bad. Granted he had like 6 scholarship players due to sanctions but they went 2-14 in the SEC and 9-18 overall
