Good morning,

We are in serious trouble and if things don't improve, we can forget about this Miami 2013 hype, because it's not happening. We may not win in two weeks at Florida. There is still time to turn it around...

From my novice point of view, it looks to be the receivers are not getting separation. We've seen Mett thread the needle over and over again, so accuracy is not his problem. That would lead me to believe that the receivers are not getting open as much as they should.

Agree, disagree?

Agree, but I believe it to be more of a problem with the routes. LSU runs very simple routes to attack the seams. Most of the routes are vertical routes with very little crossing routes underneath designed to find holes in the coverage. These routes are easier to cover. They are particulary easy when you only have 2 or 3 recievers to worry about.

They aren't. WR is a huge concern going forward.

That certainly has played a part but most of these passes should be caught. Most were simple drops.

I expected better, particularly from Beckham. though it seems like at times they get separation and the throw isn't the best, or the line isn't giving Mett time to make the throw. ODB had that 1 DB burnt badly, and the deep ball to Shep may have gone for 6 if it's thrown a bit more toward the post (this is off memory, haven't seen those on replay yet though).

keep telling myself we'll get that stuff fixed, but man. do it already!

They can separate, catching is the issue

Our receivers have not been able to seperate from the db's in 4 years.

it must have more to do with play calling and play design than the receivers themselves.

The throw to Shep was on Mett, you are right if he leads him to the post it's 6 points.

This. We don't necessarily have a "passing game." We have a sling it down the field game. And if we don't start using tougher routes designed to confuse the secondary then we'll lose a game or two. Cause Bama already has their gameplan ready for us. Stack the box and make us beat them with the run.

In a nut shell the problem is Adam Henry.

I agree with this, but the WR's don't seem to do much to get open if the the play breaks down, or Mett rolls out. Several times this year Mett and the WR's haven't been on the same page when reading the defense either, not 100% sure who is to blame there.

It just appears that the passing game has a whole lot of maturing that needs to happen.

Honestly it feels like we have a bunch of slot receivers out there no real deep threat.

Shep, Jarvis, and beckham are all like 6'1 and under right?

At least you realize this. Both of those deep throws were slightly underthrown. It's hard for a receiver to catch the ball when they have to slow down and come back for the ball with a guy right behind them. They were catchable balls, but it's not all the receivers fault

We definetely have a case of the drops. But when other teams are putting up high 20s or low 30's against Auburn, and we put up 12. Dropped passes are significant, but we should have put up much more than 12 last night. Our RB's are stout, but if Auburn can focus on the run, we need to have the ability to stretch the defense. I just think our receivers are a concern.

Both of those passes were highly catchable for any receiver of average ability.

EVERY TEAM had drops. People need to quit acting like those were perfect throws.

If a wide receiver has to slow down to go back for the ball, it usually means that the pass isn't on target.

You have to catch those passes. Few throws that long are "perfect."

this is all about how miles wants to operate. mett is better right now than jj or jl was last year. we got to nc gamee last year so the qb and wr are not going hold us back. that said, this really points up that obj is not as good as advertised. he has fumbled a kickoff, misplayed a punt sat. and dropped a long pass. wr is not our strong point but we had big opportunities to shep and obj last night. we will be fine.
