If you look at our last two games and the first half against auburn, weve actually been one of the better defenses in the sec. Was there something done personel wise that I missed? When did clark get taken out of the starting lineup ? because it just seemed like he was, all of the sudden, not out there as much.

Thoughts on baskerville? He missed a gap for sure recently ,I remember, but hes been better then clark. The fact that hes not standing out ,is a good thing. Clark was always on the screen chasing someone down from behind that juked him out his jock.

Have there been any other depth chart changes that havent been as obvious? Roy is out there more ,so is Thornton.

Btw,nobody is saying shite about it ,but Andre Anthony needs to get some love from the rant, dude is playing well and has turned around my perception of him,for sure. I believe he fits in well coming off the edge .

Yall got anything?

I don’t know what to make of it. D Line looked a lot more explosive and the defense as a whole didn’t look lost on every play. It was very nice to see.

Played with much more passion. Tackling was better DB play was superior and yes 23 makes a big difference.

Baskerville makes a huge difference. Not only is he playing the gaps better which allows help to get there in time before a big play is made, but he is making plenty of plays and tackles himself.

Communication in the secondary was also better.

I believe we had to hit rock bottom and make the guys wake up, band together, take to coaching in order to redeem themselves.
Changes were made and guys got tired of being embarrassed.
Pelini has had some good plans and we’ve seen better play. It bodes well for next year.

Tackling and angles have been better.

It also helped against A&M that Jimbo decided to attack downfield instead of running the rubs and shallow cross routes that have been killing LSU all year.

players understood their role and where they should be on each play. When that happens, the athlete can use their athleticism to make plays.

Offense was always “sick”. We simply looked like we had a pulse vs horrible defenses.- Vandy, State, Missouri..... It all starts with the O line. Worst line in years. Any defense that is stout will shut us down. Armageddon coming Saturday.

Put a pin in that improved defense notion. I see reason for some optimism but Mond was another level of bad Sat. night. He was missing wide open receivers on plays that have been torching our d all year. If we can get off the field even some of the time vs Bama then we can use the word “improved”.

Hell jimbo was trying to do what everyone else did against us but our coverage was tighter and mond had a bad game ,even for him. Hes better then he showed saturday, but holy hell,if I see him in another 1st or 2nd round mock draft I'm gonna puke.

They seem to be executing their assignments better and putting Baskerville in for Clark has helped a lot. My take from the aTm game is,
1) Mond is garbage ( as was Franks )
2) the receivers for aTm weren’t that good
3) for all the hoopla about jimbo and his offensive mind, I’m not impressed with him ( these first 3 things helped the defense look better ).
4) the players seem to be executing their assignments a lot better now and they were all over a lot of the play calls ( which means they are doing their homework in the film room ).

I agree about Andre, ( he still crashes down too hard and loses containment sometimes ) but he is playing well overall. Roy is going to be a great player.

Repetition in the new system. Practice, practice, practice.
They played A&M better than any other team.
Clark played vs A&M.

Yes he did play some and he was badly out of position where the huge hole was on the long TD run.

I am not completely convinced that the defense has turned a corner. I think that the defense played really well against A&M, but the A&M receivers dropped A LOT of wide open passes. I think if A&M catches half of their drops the game is a lot uglier. Nevertheless, I think there were obvious improvements on defense and I’m cautiously optimistic about how the defense will play against a good Alabama offense.

Not much and the big TD run went right at him.

Baskerville, while not Queen or White, is light years better. He attacks. Clark hesitates and guesses.

I am going to steal some insight from T-Bob (dangerous I know). He actually goes back and watches the film and he said that Baskerville makes everyone else's job easier by being where he is supposed to be and playing with speed and decisiveness.

You also said the he doesn't stand out which I disagree with. I feel like he flashes in a positive way at least a few plays each game.

I am cautiously optimistic about the improvements on D. Other than the td run and one big run on the next drive, we shut down their run game in a big way. That by itself is a huge improvement, especially against a talented and experienced oline. Flott played a really good game, as did the rest of the secondary; the safeties actually seemed to be in position! I didn't see Ricks in a lot, which I thought was odd.

There were a couple of neat wrinkles too. On one third down (which we stopped successfully), Stingley was actually lined up at LB and played a middle zone.

We will see if Pelini can keep things moving in the right direction.

A couple of clear explanations: 1) It was pouring down raining both games! 2) Franks and Mond are two of the worst starting QBs we have ever seen in the SEC although Franks still killed us with the deep ball.
