LSU has been an elite program over the past decade. Yes we had 2 off years but Florida is having one now and need I remind of you of Bama in the past 10 years before Saban? Fact of the matter is that LSU might not be a top tier from a "historical" stand point, but right now LSU can compete with any team in this country...I'm just saying you take anyone (Oregon, Boise, Auburn, Bama, Ohio St, Nebraska, ANNYOONEE) and put them in Death Valley on a Saturday night and I'll take my odds with the Bayou Bengals.

Haha yea, doing this from iPhone.

Since it sounds like you concede LSU wasn't elite at the start of the 2000s (I would agree), then we're really arguing about whether LSU's performance in the 2000s vaulted us once and for all into elitedom. Briefly, yes. But to be an elite you have to stay there and when you slip (as all programs, even the elite ones, inevitably do) get back there in some reasonable period. LSU had almost 40 years in between the mid 2000s spurt and our last elite-like spurt in the late 50s and early 60s. And if it takes another 40 years to do it again, that ain't elite. The clock is ticking. If we want to prove ourselves worthy of the elite title, we've got to follow the example of our baseball team and get back to the show. Otherwise, we'll remain a historically damn good program with occasional spurts of greatness every 40 years or so. But not elite.

I definently see your point on that. Right now, I do believe LSU is an elite program, but if takes them 30-40 years to win another nc; then yea, I they wouldn't be considered elite. I truely believe LSU is on the right track for success right now, but if Les can't get anything done in the near future, then I think something needs to be done. But yes, I do agree with what you are saying about that.

I don't know if LSU is an "elite" program, or not. What I DO know is that there are a whole bushel basket-full of teams that would give their eye teeth to win two BCS titles.

dude give it up. thinking the first team to win 2 crystal footballs is not elite in their own conference over that time span is idiotic.

It amazes me how people around here still believe that BS.

Nebraska won 3 in 94-95-97
FSU 93-99

Florida 96-06-08 (first SEC team to win TWO Crystal Footballs and First SEC team to win THREE)
LSU 03-07
Alabama 92-09

Unfortunately, to you and so many others that follow this board, "elite", only means year after year of SEC championships, never losing to ANYONE, all blowout games and that crystal football permanently residing in BR. How many programs in the country would die just for the opportunity to just play in the NC game?? Christ man, we have two of them! We are on national TV every week. Our exposure is second to none. Whose is better??
WE ARE NOT AN ELITE PROGRAM???? Come on.
