As long as he stays away from the defense.

Give me Haywood...Bring back the magic!

Honestly any of those would be decent hires IMO

Really great dude! Has the personality to talk you into anything! He's a proven recruiter and I'm sure he'd love being closer to home and not coaching at UK. And on top of that, he's fricking hilarious!

This isn't a bad list. Its not like these guys are going to be the next HC at LSU. Were talking about ST coordinator, at LSU, being the ST coordinator is half done already. Youe have superior atheletes in the return and coverage department.

None of these are really STs coaches. Doubt that they are up for the job. They don't fit the bill. They may have their agents out pushing their names. Not any of them have pro ST experience at the position. It is more than a position coach. Hope Miles is smarter than that. Course....agents usually win out. Compare their experience to McGaughey and they do not compare.

Manny Diaz
He's an interesting candidate in that he might have recruiting ties in Texas, specifically Houston, which was was McGaughey's recruiting territory. Anyone have any clue as to Diaz' rep as a recruiter?

That list sucks. Would take Peveto too if that's all we were considering.

With all the TAF support in Houston...Texas is an easy recruiting ground. Texas has so much talent. Any coach that can recruit can do so in Tx or Fl. Hitting the road to recruit is one of the tough jobs. Knowing how to meet the families...another challenge. You should see some of the places that they must visit...like down the bayou.

I don't have a problem w/ any of those mentioned, although I obviously don't have, nor need, a vote in the issue. All of the guys mentioned in this thread have a solid, albeit imperfect, coaching pedigree; it's VERY rare for a coach to NOT have some sort of blemish on his curriculum vitae. Having a marred record doesn't mean he's now a bad coach; usually it just means circumstances didn't work out for some reason at one of his coaching stops. Take Diaz, for example. Yeah, he appears to have been a flop as DC at TX, but I remember that at the time of his hiring he was a VERY hot commodity. For most of these candidates, getting the hire would be a chance to rehabilitate their career. I don't have a problem w/ that as I trust CLM w/ his hiring decisions. Yes, CLM has his weaknesses, but he has a strong track record when it comes to hiring his coaches. I don't expect any special teams coach to stay long term anyway. Typically, the ST position is a stepping stone to a better position, not a terminal position. Whoever CLM hires, it'll be fine.

Rather the position go unfilled. Seriously, that list of names would be hard pressed to be worse.

Diaz just took the DC job at La. Tech so I don't think he's going anywhere.....this year.

Peveto was just fine until the dual DC year (malveto). So he could do just fine and recruit well too.

Would not be against it. Dude was a good recruiter.

Who did he land in 4 years here besides HS teammates Riley and Sheppard (who weren't offered by UGA)? Hint: rhymes with nobody. He is as bad a recruiter as he is football coach and hair grower.

He is credited with Al Woods, who would have come here is Adolf Hitler was his recruiter. The rest of his full LSU career haul is a who's who of special teams players being recruited by nobody else and horrible reaches that never should have been offered:

Riley
Sheppard
Woods
Jacob Ohair
Steven Singleton
Andrew Crutchfield
Josh Jasper
T Bob Hebert
John Williams
Derrick Bryant
Cordian Hagans
Kyle Prater

We can only dream to bring him back out of that dream job of Safetys coach at UK. He landed all of one recruit for UK last year. Really pulling his weight as always.

I guess we'll start making every hire based off of who Peveto was comfortable with from the 1991 U of Houston staff like Miles did for 3 years when Peveto was his #1 BBQ man.

Don't be to quick to discount Peveto. Peveto to might be a very good choice. When he was at LSU he also was special teams coordinator. in 2006 both kicker and punter were all SEC and LSU ranked very high in kick offs and punts as I recall Also. When he was at Northwestern his recruiting classes ranked 1 st or 2nd in FCS Had a rough time as co defensive coordinator but.not sure all the blame lay on him for that. And this is for special teams and recruiter. I d say he fits both pretty well

i recall the "punt ugly" formation and below average net punting results at best
