I’m curious to see who The Rant has at the Top.

1. Scott Woodward
2. Skip Bertman
3. Joe Dean
4. Bob Broadhead
5. Joe Alleva

I honestly don’t remember much from Broadheads time.

Woodward
Broadhead/Skip
Alleva
Dean

Broadhead would be a clear #2 and maybe #1 if he wasn’t such a paranoid psycho. His vision was incredible but he sabotaged himself. Skip was really a useful idiot, LSU needed him to usher in the football ticket prices, tradition fund, etc. They knew LSU fans wouldn’t revolt against him.

Alleva’s main problem was execution. He was a good ideas guy but wasn’t capable of executing. Fire Les and hire Jimbo, the nutrition center, beer at games, hire Pat Murphy as softball coach. A whole list of things he couldn’t actually do.

Dean was a cheap, worthless shitbag.

Dean was hilariously worse than Alleva.

I know that’s a big statement, but it’s true.

Dean was a cheapskate, but I think he was a far superior administrator to Alleva. Dean was turning a profit without the current TAF commitment level, a losing football team, a stadium that held 20,000 fewer people, no bowl revenue sharing, no SEC Network money, and TV contracts overall were a fraction of what were during Alleva's tenure.

Like Alleva was awful at evaluating coaches with his sole criteria being are they cheap. Dean was by no means a visionary, but that he was able to bring the AD into the black is nothing short of miraculous. If Alleva had been AD in the 80s our Athletic department would have been hemorrhaging money.

1-Woodward
2-Bob Broadhead
3-Skip
4-Alleva
5-Joe “String Music” Dean

The younger fans who don’t remember Joe Dean, he was a complete and total disaster.

He had a hit and run in Southdowns when he hit a car at a Stop sign and drove off.

He was ogling the Girls on Sorority Row one day and drove his car into the lake.

He backed into a BRPD car when leaving a Baseball Regional and drive to a Tennis Match across Campus. The cops followed the idiot all the way to the Tennis Stadium with Lights flashing & Sirens blaring.

Joe Dean hired Curley Hallman. He defended Curley until Forced to fire him.
Curley won 16 games in 4 years and damn near destroyed LSU Football.

Joe Dean hired Pat Sullivan from TCU to replace Curley Hallman. Sullivan was already announced as LSU’s Head Coach and had gone back to TCU to resign and talk to his team. TCU wanted a 400k buyout and Pat Sullivan told Joe Dean. Joe Dean refused to pay the buyout and Sullivan stayed at TCU. What kind of an AD
goes through a hiring process without discussing a buyout clause?

Following the Sullivan botched hire. Joe Dean had to go “hat in hand” to Gerry Dinardo and offer him the job just 2 days after Dinardo removed his name from consideratíon. What if Dinardo had declined? Joe Dean was a buffoon.

Joe Dean refused to let Dale Brown go which allowed Dale to drag LSU Basketball down before Brown finally was ousted.

There was a lot more but this will give anyone unfamiliar with this bumbling moron
just how bad and incompetent he truly was.

Lol 2 for Skip? I love what he did for baseball but he was a terrible AD.

It should be Broadhead/Woodward then the rest. Woodward may be on the path for the best but it's too early to rate him. The rest were terrible. Plain and simple. Ranking Broadhead 4 on your list is an absolute slap in the face unless you're ranking by personalities.

Broadhead was the GOAT. Was about to can Dale Brown and Dale got the politicians to run him out of town.
Broadhead got Bill Arnspargar and Skip to come here and had our budget in the black which was a big deal back in those days

I think it's pretty obvious that Dean was the worst....but I don't think the gap between him and Alleva is as big as you portray....it could be argued that the gap was incredibly small.

Scott has spent money that’s it. He might be the best in the long run but just opening up the bank account in his early tenure is pretty easy for administrator.

Skip was a figure head at the time, Dan ran the day to day operations.

Woodward,Broadhead,Maddox,Skip,Aleva,Dean.
Skip was for Skip.He hired Smoke because he was the only
coach that would give him the camp money. He hired LES
because he knew he could control him.He didn`t rehire Nick
when he had the chance because he didn`t like the fact
that Nick was in charge and Skips ego couldn`t deal with
that.
Skip is the Father of Ncaa baseball as we know it today,
no queston, but as AD he sucked.

You can argue it but Dean was far worse. Hands down.

Dean’s hiring of Hallman and resisting firing him was incredible. I am not kidding when I say Joe Dean almost killed LSU Football. LSU was getting embarrassed weekly and was winning 3 to 4 games per year. Home attendance had dropped to 45,000 or so and Dean still wanted to keep Hallman.

The botching of the Sullivan hire and National embarrassment when Sullivan backed out was just so rinky-dink.

Then LSU had to go to Vanderbilt to beg Dinardo to take the job. LSU was a bottom-feeder of the SEC and a laughing stock of College Football.

Dean made the comment “there would never be a Million Dollar Coach while he was at LSU. So when it came to replace Dinardo, Emmert stuck Joe Dean in the Corner and hired Saban.

Joe Dean was the ultimate penny pincher. Under Dean the LSU Football Staff was the 7th highest paid staff in the 12 team SEC.
Dinardo lost both Coordinators over money because Joe Dean said they had honor their contracts. So John Symank (DC) left for Texas and Morris Watts (OC) left for Michigan State. LSU was losing assistant coaches to Mississippi State over money.

Joe Dean deserves every bit of criticism he gets. By far the Worst AD in the last 50 years.

I don’t care that Dean was turning a profit. We sucked at the important sports, except for baseball, which didn’t require much funding at the time.

Dean was by far the worst. As bad as Alleva was, he was way better than Dean.
