It looked like based on the crowd and activity in the "game thread" not a lot of folks got to catch the game so I'll give you a few of my thoughts:

Mickey was a beast, he's so smooth out on the court. Tall, long athletic, can hit the J, drive to the lane, and post-up. He's an all-SEC 1st teamer no doubt in my mind. Had a double-double before the half ended and carried our offense.

Martin has been awesome this year, but sometimes his head isn't in the game like tonight. He plays a ton of minutes though he may have been tired in the back end of the game.

Despite back-to-back strong defensive performances, it's still a pretty big area of concern. Tonight we couldn't guard anyone, and the lanes were open all night to drive.

It's a bad sign when the other teams almost out gains you offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds. rebounds is all about hustle, and we had zero of that tonight

let's hope the gray injury isn't too bad. he went to the locker room in the 1st half and did not even return to the bench. he's definitely are smoothest guard to handle the rock and create opportunities…I would hope he's back at 100% by SEC play, we should be okay before then

I think we probably lose to 80% of SEC teams tonight….I'm hoping it was due to the 9-day break but we were just lethargic the entire game

let's also hope Hornsby stays hot from 3 like tonight…we need him to be a 45% 3-point shooter in league play.

with all that being said, we got the W against a gritty, decent talented Sam Houston St. game…we really really need to win our next 4 games to finish 11-1 before league play….this would put us in a prime position with our current resume to go 11-7 in the league and make the tournament

couple of other notes:

brian bridgewater fouled out in just 8 minutes of play
mickey, martin, and hornsby played 38,37 & 36 minutes tonight…hope we don't run of gas in the back half of league play

Obviously you have no idea how hard it is to shoot 45%. Redick and Curry never did that.

Minutes is my main concern going forward. The talent is there. I saw a stat that showed JG averaged 33 minutes and the next closest minutes for point guard in the SEC was something like 21 minutes. Our bench will need to grow up quick.

45% for Hornsby for 3? Redick shot 42% as a senior, Steph Curry shot 39%. Naa, 45% isn't unrealistic at all. Also, Martin has not been terrific. He gets all his points at the FT line. He had a 6'1 player guarding him and he hit 2 3's and had a tip in...the rest were ft's. It's a joke if he declares for the league.

9-day layoff, Gray went to the locker room, SHSU played a solid game and lost by 3 to a&m. And we still only allowed 67 points. Yea we allowed too many offensive rebounds, but it was a letdown game and we still came out with a victory. They shot 34%. WVU shot badly as well, and Umass was putrid. Our defense has greatly improved.

I was at the game also and if we do no learn to get back on defense , rotate timely on picks, and protect the lane we are in for a long SEC

Offense is improving but with a D we will struggle

I'm wondering why minutes are so big of a deal? They're 18-21 year old kids and they play 2 games a week. In the nba they'd play 3 games and play the same if not more minutes. Final Four year with Brady we had voogd coming off the bench as the 7th man. Depth is overrated if you have a very good starting lineup.

Clearly ppl have not seen the SEC. Just a heads up, mizzou got blown out by Xavier, Western Kentucky beat Ole Miss. If you don't think lsu was sluggish and not aggressive tonight idk what to tell y'all.

Why does Kentucky get a pass for barely beating Columbia but we get shite for beating SHSU by 9

I couldn't stay up to date with the game, other than a 10 minute stretch on the first half. So Gray got hurt? Not good.

What was up with Martin (I'm assuming he didn't go off in the second half)? If you are a NBA caliber player, you score 20 against Southland Conference teams.

We haven't been able to pull away from inferior teams to let other guys get minutes.

We need to have a couple games with Malone and Robinson getting significant minutes. Hopefully epps gets back soon too.

Choup, Martin simply isn't aggressive and is lackadaisical. It's a joke if he thinks he can go pro

does it matter that he gets his points at the FT line? seems like dumb logic.

I agree here, hope he doesn't get some bad advice. I definitely think Mickey is gone regardless.

Agreed. This isn't the NBA, with aging bodies and 100+ games! including playoffs. College kids can play a whole lot of minutes.

It's not dumb logic. He was 3/9 from the field, 6/10 at the line. 14 points. It was some weak 14. West Virginia he went 5/13 and ended with 18. He had a 6'1 guy guard him and he did nothing against him

But dat athleticism doe!

I just looked at the box score, says Martin was 2-2 from 3 pt range. Very nice. That's going to bring up the average.
