why are posters getting upset with fans posting the bar so high?

While i do not get “upset”, it is silly to use the phrase “no excuses”. That is the part that stands out to me. There are countless scenarios that can play out that will make 9-3, 8-4 a very successful season.

No there’s not. And don’t say “injuries”.

If Burrow goes down on the first snap of the Ga Southern game, no duh the expectations will be tempered.

8-4 this season should have this entire fan base fuming mad.

We agree 100%. However, that is not what “no excuses” means.

Didn’t realize that this was such a tough comment.

No excuses = no matter what. 11-1 or burn the whole thing down. Start buying out more contracts.

What can happen?? I don’t know:
-Another Katrina...this time directly through BR.
-coach SE retires for health reasons, and Joe is not as good as thought.
-injuries. Yes injuries. After Fulton and Stingley, that position is thin...or not very experienced.
-OL continues to change week after week, like last year.
-etc.

We agree on not being happy at 8-4. However, I have never said “no excuses”.

Talent, coaching, schedule, and luck (how the ball bounces, referees, and injuries) all determine the outcome of a season.

Bad luck 8-4
Good luck 12-0
Great luck 15-0
This is why the preseason is full of hope, the season is full of surprises and excitement, and post season has the glow of success or agony of disappointment.

Just ask Bama about the agony of disappointment!

Football is great, and Tiger football is the best!

It's the most overused phrase on the rant.

Not a valid excuse.

My point is that all of things you brought up are either extremely unlikely to happen or are things that legit programs mitigate by recruiting talented depth and hiring and maintaining elite, proven coaching staffs. Being thin at CB isn't an excuse. Being thin or lacking overall talent at OL isn't an excuse. Those are things that should be squared away by recruiting. "Next man up", as Coach likes to day.

Well when the first thing he says is "we could have another Katrina", come the frick on.

It reminds me of the show Veep.

In that show Jula Louis-Dreyfous is the VP of the United States and her press secretary, instead of actually doing his job and trying to deflect from a snafu committed by the VP, says "well what if Tom Hanks dies tomorrow?"

Like, yeah, another Katrina could hit. I think that would alter fans' expectations, slightly.

Ohio State played its THIRD STRING quarterback in a conference championship, and two playoff games.

Meanwhile, if LSU has a DB go down, we should be happy with 8-4.
