Question about pitchers and year round baseball

When these guys are finished with the postseason, most of them will go to a summer league, and then back to school, where fall ball will begin shortly. If they're turning pro, they'll report to a minor league team and play the rest of the summer and on into the fall, then probably play winter ball somewhere. What kind of effect does this have on arms and longevity?

They treat them very gently in those summer leagues. Priority 1 is developing the players.

Cumulative pitch numbers and proper rest are more important than "year round" baseball being a detriment at their physical maturity. They can take a few months off here and there.

The summer league coaches are on a strict pitching plan developed by the coaches of the college they play for.

The summer coaches usually follow college coaches' orders when it comes to workload, inning or pitch limit.
Once drafted, most MLB organizations might give them a later report date especially for the higher ceiling guys or higher round picks. They are not showing up and throwing a 100 pitch outing right away. They will ease them into it.
Now if you get drafted below say 20th round, you better get your plane ticket right away and start earning your keep.

Colleges and the year around programs at that level do a VERY good job monitoring their activity, workouts, rest, etc. Unlike in HS and weekend AAU travel ball where you'll see a young man P 5-6 IP, and then the next day play 3b or SS.....crazy! And if you speak up about it, the staff and sadly other parents look at you like YOU are crazy. Sorry about the rant....
