re: Question about Nebraska game in 1976, did we get robbed, any film?

I was at both the Nebraska game (6-6) and USC in 1979. I was in grade school. As my kid brain remembers the Nebraska game, Vince Ferragamo was their qb and they were ranked number one in the country but had a mediocre year. In my mind,at that time, America was more regional then, the differences between regions was a "bigger deal" and these games meant more to us as Lousianians. We definitely wanted to represent and punch the big guys in the nose. Apparently Rusty Domingue did far more than that (I have only the vaguest recollection of that, a memory of a memory).

I don't get why people say we got robbed that night against USC. It was a pretty clear facemask, the QB's head turned around.
What did happen though was a clear false start at the beginning of the play.
But the face mask was definitely a facemask.

Regarding the 1979 LSU - USC game and questionable call...
You Tube Of The Play
Here is the play in question. I was there and the QB's (Paul McDonald) face mask was touched and maybe pulled. Note that there was not a 5 Yard FaceMask penalty then.
What bothered most fans was the NO CALL on the false start by the RG and RT.
It should have been off-setting and the play run again. Instead, it was a 15 yd walkoff and a 1st down that led to a game winning TD.
Despite the outcome, arguably one of the best games ever played in Tiger Stadium.

Here is a blown up version of the false start.

My problem with this aspect of the play is that the two USC guys that jumped early were lined up over Benji. Had they not been upright before the snap, Benji probably would have cleaned Mcdonald's clock with no penality.

You stole my thunder.
This is not true. The play should have been blown dead for the false start.
Also, Mcdonald threw the ball backwards to a lineman. Why was that not penalized? The announcer is Jim Simpson and he has no clue to any of this.

You are right. I stand corrected.

Was my recollection RD's block was at/near end of the game? The TD came very early in. Was a tough game either way and don't recall feeling robbed just not make the FG's when needed!

The debatable question in the Nebraska game is Cholly Mac's decision to kick a field goal to tie the game. My recollection is we had a 4th and 1 inside Nebraska's 5 yard line late in the game Terry Robiskie had run three straight times on the three previous plays gaining 3 yards each time. When faced with the fourth down, Mac opted for the tie. It was too late in the game to get the ball again and drive for another score.

I was at the nebraska game and i swear that Mike Conway's field goal at end of the game was good--I was also in student section and it appeared good to me, but anyway--it was a great ballgame and nebraska was stunned we played so well.
