If a mizzou player in that dugout had stood on that top step, straight up, and Hale's glove hits him and interferes with the catch, is the guy out? I wouldn't think so, they were pretty friendly to Connor in that situation.

Would they be allowed to put their hands in the air? Straight up?

let's just say they don't have to move, but it's bad sportsmanship. they're not playing baseball, the fielder is

I don't know that for sure but I do know they can't "interfere" with the opposing player. whatever constitutes interference.

it would take a real dick to not move out of his way though.

I don't think they are allowed to go after the ball or player, but they have the right to their dugout rail. It's pretty much like a ball in the stands with fans.

If it were our dugout and we're at home, sure, get in the way.

Fans can go after the ball and players if the ball is in the stands. But LSU fans don't know that like we saw against Stony Brook.

I'm just thinking if I'm a fan sitting first row, and foul ball by my team is hit that way....i'm getting as close to that imaginary line that separates fair/foul and getting in the way.

Vandy. Blake Dean 2010

Then two years later everyone in that same section got out of the way and let the Stony Brook 1st baseman dive into the stands in the 8th inning of game 1.

One old man even helped the ump make the out call.

Hale landed on top of Lake Dabney.

Are you saying if Dabney didn't duck?

I'm saying the Missouri players should've stayed on the top step and not gotten out of the way.

They didn't move much

They don't have to move but they can't interfere with him deliberately

They weren't overly friendly. I do appreciate towards the very end one guy was going to catch him if he fell over. At first it looked like they wouldn't

Yep, they don't have to move, same as standing in the on deck circle or being a coach in a coaching box, however it's crappy sportsmanship not to allow the defensive player a chance to make the play. About the only acceptable thing the offensive team can do is holler that the ball is out of play.

You better believe a player in the on deck circle and a coach in the box has to move. They are in the field of play and if they get in the way of a fielder trying to make a play, they can very easily be called for interference. Even the players in the dug out can interfere with the act of "making a play."

"INTERFERENCE is an act by the team at bat (notice it says "TEAM") which interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses any fielder attempting to make a play. Note the "make a play" phrase.
There are instances where the runner or batter are given some latitude. A runner is not out when hit by a deflected batted ball, unless the umpire judges the runner intentionally was hit to hinder a play or another fielder had a play on the ball. A runner is not out for being hit with a thrown ball unless the act was intentional. The batter is not expected to evaporate while in the batter's box. If he could not reasonably avoid a play because he just swung or ducked a pitch, he is safe. He can be called for interference while inside the batter's box.

There are no "safety zones" on the field. See rule 7.11 which states that the offense must vacate all space necessary for a fielder to make a play. You cannot have interference unless somebody is making a play. A play is a throw, attempted throw, or attempted tag of a runner or of a base for a force out.
The batter's box, the coach's box, the running lane, the dugout and the base path are not automatic safety zones. An offensive team member MAY be called out for interference in some situations while occupying any of these spaces." [Emphasis added]

If you don't move you might get hit with a glove in the face or a baseball on the top of your head. Most ppl move on instinct.

If Hale's complete body would have ended up in the dugout would it still be scored as an out?
