So in order to be in the CFP, where does the QB play have to be based on the surrounding talent on both sides of the ball ?

A. Exceptional (will have to carry the team)
B. Good (minimal mistakes / makes plays when needed)
C. Marginal (just don't F it up)
D. Doesn't matter ( hand it to #7 and rely on defense)

I think to be at an elite level, the qb play for LSU needs to be B. Good.
If the qb can't keep the defense honest and the linebackers/cb's respecting the pass, they can make the running game average.

B.

I think people saying that QB play needs to be only slightly better than last year don't realize just how bad it was. It's not just a tweak here and there...the passing game has to be on a completely different level.

B would be great, but C would be an improvement over last year by a considerable margin.

In Anthony Jennings' hands.

B would be great, but I really think that C would get us into the CFP. Last year was atrocious, but we managed to overcome a lot of that with a young, inexperienced team. With marginal play we would've had a 10 win season. At least.

I've been watching LSU football for many years and the Tigers were as close to 5 or 6 wins as 10. Yes could have beat Bama and ND(no comment needed on this one) and easily could have lost to OM, UF, and even TAM. A Bluegrass miracle could have beaten State.

Correct, but I'm also basing my statement on the fact that our players will have a year of experience under their belt. More often than not they get better, not worse. So I'm thinking that qb play doesn't have to advance by leaps and bounds for us to succeed.
May just be wishful thinking though.
